Some new and interesting details about the upcoming Forza Motorsport in the Forza Year in Review – 2021 :)

    Forza
    Motorsport

2021 also marked an incredibly important milestone for Forza Motorsport – we hosted our first ever external playtests with select players in May and August, respectively. We’re grateful to everyone for their participation and helping us with this new approach to development as we test and refine core game features. The feedback you’ve shared with us is invaluable, and it’ll make the Forza Motorsport experience better for everyone.

Appearing on Forza Monthly throughout the year, Creative Director Chris Esaki shared the latest updates from our playtesting efforts and dove deep into the Motorsport multiplayer experience, car and track physics, and race strategy.

We are taking what has made Forza Motorsport great over the past 15 years and pairing it with new game concepts and new technologies. Our physics simulation is key to this experience, and they’ve taken a generational leap, with more changes from FM7 to now than all the changes we made from FM4 through FM7. Here’s some of the notable improvements our team has been working on:

    • Our tire collision model now has 48 times more fidelity. Previously, it had a single point of contact with the track surface and moved at 60 cycles per second. Our new model has eight points of contact with the track surface and is running at 360 cycles per second!

    • We’ve introduced hard, medium, and soft tire compounds and we’re looking to expand this overtime. Each compound has its own grip and wear characteristics. As part of race strategy, you’ll be able to change tire compounds and refuel when pitting.

    • Kerbs, which were somewhat coarse and unsettling, can now be approached with confidence. They feel smooth and natural to drive over as tires feel the road and feel the undulations in the kerb.

    • Players will need to adapt to environmental factors and how they change the gameplay to make every lap feel different. For instance, we’re working on track temperature and how that affects tire characteristics such as grip, pressure, and wear.

    • We’re creating a realistic simulation of real-world suspension that will be responsive and aligned with player expectations while retaining the “Forza feel” you know and love.

You’ve asked for deeper, more authentic multiplayer racing, and we set out to make that a reality in this new Forza Motorsport with a focus on growing skills and building communities. The structure of what we’ve been testing with the community is essentially a race weekend, featuring Open Practice, Qualifying and a Featured Race with a calendar of both active and upcoming events taking place around the world.

What happens on the track with our testers is some of the best feedback we can get and that’s why we’ve had community organizers such as TORA involved. With all the changes to tire compounds, tire wear and fuel, we’re also doubling down on endurance racing. In our last playtest, we had an Open Practice and Qualifying event up for hours. Players could practice and qualify when it most convenient for them, then leave and return for the main event.

This new approach to endurance racing provides us with unique scenarios to experiment with. For example, we can create qualifiers during the week and host the Featured Race on the weekend, or alternatively, qualify during the day and race at night.

We also want to help players unlock their fastest self through a new corner mastery system in Open Practice. It’s designed to better focus your practice sessions on the real tricky areas of the track like double apexes – we consider those your “enemies.” We’re shaping this corner mastery system into something more social and connected that goes beyond simple per track leaderboards and instead creates an experience where players compete and compare corner scores in real time.

We’ll have more to share about Forza Motorsport in the new year; stay tuned. In the meantime, our team is constantly experimenting and to reiterate, what we’ve been testing in 2021 is nowhere near final. We’ll continue to test as needed because we know how crucial the online racing experience is to our community and for us, it’s just as important to get this right.

THE ALL-NEW FORZA MOTORSPORT IS THE MOST TECHNICALLY ADVANCED RACING GAME EVER MADE

    https://forza.net/news/forza-motorsport-the-most-technically-advanced-racing-game-ever-made

Here at Turn 10 Studios, our team is building the next generation of Forza Motorsport to immerse you in the spectacle of racing like you’ve never seen it before. Today, at the Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase, we went under the hood to share what we’ve been working on.

Coming in spring 2023, Forza Motorsport has been built from the ground up to showcase the Xbox Series X|S consoles. The accuracy of our overhauled physics, the beauty of our cars and tracks, our new dynamic time of day, advanced car damage, and real time ray tracing on track lead to a generational leap in immersion. Forza Motorsport is the most technically advanced racing game ever made.

Captured in-game and running on an Xbox Series X, we unveiled a brand-new trailer which debuted alongside the first ever gameplay of Forza Motorsport, showcasing how Maple Valley – a beloved, fan-favorite track since the very first Motorsport game launched in 2005 – is being brought to life in stunning detail and beauty.

In addition to Maple Valley, our trailer introduced players to returning fan-favorite tracks Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps and Laguna Seca Raceway. We also revealed Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit, a South African track making its Forza Motorsport debut, and the all-new Circuit Hakone set in Japan, an original, high-speed Grand Prix circuit built to showcase the technically advanced, state of the art immersion of the new Forza Motorsport.

Fundamental to Forza Motorsport is our fully dynamic time of day system, which brings tracks to life in stunning detail and like weather, it will be available on every track. Changes in time of day alter ambient temperatures, which, in turn, impacts the track surface temperatures. These track temperature changes will affect the grip of your car, as does rubbering in and weather. These new simulation details add further depth, drama, and dynamics to the racing experience.

Environments have been captured using photogrammetry and 3D material scans while advanced rendering and procedural generation techniques bring a new level of realism to the track. The grass, rocks, 3D vegetation, skies and clouds illustrate a generational leap in beauty and detail while forward+ lighting and physically based lights come together to deepen the realism and immersion in our Motorsport world, highlighted by the night-time glow of Maple Valley’s Ferris wheel.

We've completely overhauled the core driving experience to take advantage of the power of the Xbox Series consoles. This includes a 48 times improvement in the fidelity of our physics simulation. Based on your feedback, we’ve introduced new features like tire and fuel management, multiple tire compounds, and new in-depth car building to create the ultimate racing playset. This is all brought to life at the trackside pits, where advanced materials and shaders paired with ray tracing bring out incredible detail in the gold heat wrap, anodized aluminum, and carbon fiber. Ray tracing especially shines on engine bays with their complex self-reflection.

In Forza Motorsport, car damage is reproduced down to the individual scratches on the bodywork. There are all-new simulation details in the directionality of damage, how the paint peels away at exposed and raised edges, in the wheel abrasions, and in the dirt build-up. Car damage is a racing reality and has been authentically captured in the new Forza Motorsport.

Watch the Forza Motorsport gameplay video to experience a one-shot gameplay demo at speed featuring the natural beauty and fall colors of Maple Valley while behind the wheel of the 2018 BMW #1 M8 GTE. You’ll see how with the power of Xbox Series X|S consoles, real-time ray tracing on track makes everything feel more connected, natural and real as cars reflect onto other cars – reflecting in their own mirrors, bodywork, wings and brake rotors.

This is the all-new Forza Motorsport. Tune into Forza Monthly this Thursday, June 16 on our official Twitch and YouTube channels when Forza Motorsport Creative Director Chris Esaki will dive into what you see in the trailer.

Chris Esaki (Creative Director) on Forza Motorsport:

    - all-new career mode
    - multiplayer with a racing weekend structure: practice, qualifying, race, race strategy, schedule etc.
    - raytracing available real-time during gameplay
    - time-of-day and weather available on every track
    - Xbox Series X|S allowing the best Forza driving experience yet, "deep simulation of driving physics", completely revamped yet still "Forza feel"
    - fully dynamic time-of-day affecting gameplay, accurate sun position on real tracks
    - much more detailed scratches and dirt building
    - the most dynamic Forza experience yet; weather, time-of-day, track temperature, tire compounds, fuel, building rubber on track, pitting strategy etc. change the flow of a race over time
    - new tracks created by the studio have great gameplay as a priority, then visuals
    - the cars confirmed so far hint at the focus of the whole game: a focus on actual Motorsport
    - a lot of cars "new to Forza", will get more in detail over time
    - most systems in the game built from the ground up, more details coming in future Forza Monthly, tons of new things

It will probably drive like crap compared to FFB/physics of RRE. Can't wait to find out for sure...

The game better be the best version of Forza to ever grace a TV screen, seeing it will be on sale for the new low price of $70.

It will be another beautiful looking simcade focused on console instead of focusing on simulation on the PC. Nothing changed...

With Forza, it's always empty promises... never a true sim. Console first. I'd say keep Forza Horizon as the simcade and make Forza Motorsport the best simulator possible. The fact they are showing a kid holding a controller in their latest trailer says it all...

What promises ? I have no idea what you are talking about :D

Forza is Forza since always like it or not. You want to play a Sim ? Then choose one of them there are many.

They promised a lot since Forza existed, but they never delivered.

    From a D.G. Interview about FM3...

I want them to bring this load of smoke into reality. They finally have consoles powerful enough to make this happen. What gives?

For some laughs. Remember when FM7 was built from the ground up for PC and XB1X?

This guy needs to go... he's not the right leader to take this franchise to a true sim level. It's always the same bullshit.

Isn't it funny how desperately GT and Forza devs are trying to "sell" their games as full blown simulations. We're doing this and that, and that and this, it's so accurate even real life drivers can train in our game. They are quite shameless...

I guess, as long as the fans buy into that make-believe, then they can get away with it. Its good to see more people are catching on to the BS.
