Some nice little tweaks to the ranked ui but i absolutely hate the switch to leaderboard qualifying for the daily combos, hope this is just to see how people like it and itll be gone again in a weeks time . Also sucks that all of a sudden the weekly combos have changed, have driven basically nothing but the 296 at the nordschleife the past week to do the race tomorrow which now wont happen and i couldve rather spent some more time with the hypercars.. . Feels like an avoidable oversight even if the focus was on fixing bugs and getting the game more stable for everybody
I haven't had time yet to race, but this system does indeed seem a bit odd to me as well. The main thing for me is that it somehow kills the qualifying vibe. When you qualify 100th on the leaderboard and only 10 people are online to do this exact race you want to do and suddenly you start from third - probably very strange. (If I just didn't understand the way it works - okay, I will see tomorrow. ) I miss the good old schedule as well, although I'm sure this is just a transition phase where everything has to settle down, when the best solution for races per hour and the qualifying format is found, I hope to see schedules reappear.
I played a lot Gran Turismo when the Sport with matchmaking launched and it worked more than well for longer races like 45+ I agree it's not optimal and shouldn't be used but for sprints? 5 min practice-joining phase into 15/20 min race is perfect before it was like u wait for server to spawn > 3 min joining phase > sessions switch > 8 mins or whatever quali > session switch > 1 minute countdown to start which took longer than actual race it was said that weekly schedules with posted graphic etc should be back on monday I hope the splitting issues that happened yesterday where it basically spawned one server for 34 people and others weren't able to join won't happen again too since it's like the worst way to kill momentum and it happened for few hours yesterday during peak hours, luckily Chris worked till late night to fix it and seems like it worked at the end
Good to know but it wont change my personal opinion on it, theres no way ill put in the time required for a leaderboard lap for a random combo and theres also no way ill start a ranked race from the back so now 4 days of the week i have no races to do and the other 3 days i have races that are longer than what id normally wanna do. Well now you have 7 minutes of practice/join time of waiting around or doing meaningless laps. Might as well scrap practice and do 10 minutes of quali/join time. Thats an extra cost of 3 minutes per race but means youre not just waiting around plus youre saving the time youd have to spend on the leaderboard. Say you do a given combo 10 times thats half an hour of extra time, probably around where total time spent has a chance of becoming roughly equal when compared to what we have now. And thats assuming the races are open setup, fixed setup is far worse yet. You have to first build a setup and then do the leaderboard only to then do a fixed setup race (probably also needing extra practice beforehand just to get used to the fixed setup again). That turns 10 minutes of pre ranked preparation into 1-2 hours of play time that i had no interest in when just wanting to do a couple sprint races. Good to know the schedules are coming back tho
it was already adjusted to 5 mins also longer qual and join in quals instead practice isn't the solution because of join-lag that can happen and which will ruin ongoing runs
Because i cant stand hotlapping (ill still occasionally get tempted into it but typically spend most of that time in misery and am relieved when i finally get a lap in thats solid enough to finally quit ). Its a completely different type of driving and one that has nothing to do with trying to simulate real life in any way. Within the context of the leaderboard game mode it is a random combo, its no different than any other combo. But even if you dont wanna consider it random the issue of suddenly mixing two completely contrary game modes that have been fully seperate for the past decade remains. Now thinking about it there is a way of involving a type of leaderboard that i could live with but i assume thatd require a lot of backend work and thus take many months if not a couple years until itd be available. But that would look something like this: for every ranked combo a ranked quali leaderboard is spawned. This special leaderboard can only be accessed either through the ranked multiplayer interface or through a new seperate game mode. This leaderboard will run the exact combo of the ranked server (so obviously car and track, fixed/open setup, possibly weather and allowed driving aids) and crucially every player is limited to say 15-20 minutes of drive time on that leaderboard. That way its like a quali session that you do once for the whole 2 weeks (or however long the combo is part of the ranked schedule) and arent forced into hotlapping but the ranked servers themselves can still go straight into the race after a short join time
In most cases ranked servers were set to private quali, so basically hotlapping, but without fixed tyre temps and fuel level. Is the issue that you don't want your name on public leaderboards unless there's a reason more solid than qualifying for a ranked combo?
A 15 minute session with damage enabled (and technically the possibility of incident point based disqualification) is very different from a no time limit, no consequence for anything session. With the former you only get a few shots at a lap so its best to put in a banker lap first and then try pushing a bit more and more while every mistake means one less shot at a lap. It gives you the chance to actually build some rhythm (also handy for the then following race) and you gotta drive reasonably. With the latter you can/have to just go full send everywhere. If it works youve got a great lap, if it doesnt you just press restart after turn 1 for the 100th time. Needing a better reason for my name on the leaderboard isnt the issue per se but i do in fact not want my name on a public leaderboard if it wasnt a good lap. And im not willing to invest the time and nerves required to get in a good lap in a hotlapping scenario (which as previously described is very different from getting in a good lap in a qualifying scenario) just to be able to (reasonably) enter the game mode that im actually interested in
You don't have to restart, if you don't like it. I don't, for example, party because of the rhythm thing that you mentioned. For the rest, I see your points and I mainly share your sentiment about having a bad lap out there on a leaderboard. But since everyone will be doing that, I don't mind that.
You dont have to but then you spend most of the session just finishing laps that arent good enough anyways and everything takes up even more time so restarting for me is the lesser evil. Ultimately well have to see how things develop, if im part of a tiny minority ill just have to accept it and continue mostly driving on my own but if theres any realistic chance id love for that not to be the case
All the servers for the test event show up in the community server list as being unranked and without a password etc. Not knowing there was a test event i wanted to join for the race but couldnt. Just as a heads up in case this is unknown or unintended
Thank you Nico, excactemento , feel exactly the same.Different type means what you see when you meet those "fast" guys on the track (not the real fast ones but this special type of LB fast ones ) I btw. had to hotlap/solo practice a lot when joining league racing years ago, but man I hated it, mainly because I always was a good racer but a bad hotlapper/qualifier... PS: Unfortunately I have the impression that many ppl out there are taking the incident limits as a kinda challenge and not as a restriction and reminder to keep it clean ("Okay, with 49 from 50 incident points I'm still into race, so let's f****** push it ")
Well that at least makes two of us then . Solo practicing isnt necessarily an issue for me personally, its what i end up doing 95% of the time anyways. But then id like to freely choose the combo and generally aim for consistent reasonably fast laps rather than trying to nail one all in lap. Cant really comment since ive only done 2 ranked races since the big update and in neither of which was fighting for position against anybody. The handful gt3 drivers i lapped when driving a hypercar didnt cause any issues tho
Well, jumping into Supertourers at Brands Hatch last minute yesterday (even got no time to qualify via LB) at the back of the grid was really a blast as these cars are so good to drive & control especially bumper to bumper/door to door (love them since TOCA back in the days) and the guys around me really did know their way around, lots of fun ...(Alter Schwede !) And yeah, Hotlapping with purpose (e.g. to qualify for the daily races) is a total different thing that I actually like more now, cause it will bring more ppl to the Leaderboards (with purpose ) which might be a good thing even for guys like us
So yesterday I had numerous crashes. It is as if once the first crash has been triggered, the subsequent ones occur at an increasingly shorter distance. It's like a fault that keeps recurring until you do something to stop it. Once upon a time, when the TV stopped working, you hit it hard a couple of times with the palm of your hand. And it started working again. Nothing scientific, rather a superstitious ritual. Now, what I do to stop the crash is to delete the ShaderCache.bin file from Documents/MyGames/SimBin/Raceroom Racing Experience/UserData. For a few days I no longer have Crash. I don't know if it has any relevance, or if it's just a kind of superstitious ritual.
I could be misreading the situation, but my experience suggests otherwise... The split that you are assigned is based on a combination of your rating (how well you finish races) and your reputation (how many incidents you are involved in.) This seems to be putting me in splits with much faster racers...I am consistently last or very close to it on the grid at the start (and quite close at the end...I beat the DNF guys!) This system ensures that I will rarely be going head to head with anyone, and so my reputation goes up! My morale goes down. What is to stop me from just driving on the grass until DQ'ed for a few races so that I am more reasonably placed in splits? I have no desire to "tank my rating" (harder when the ELO system expects me to lose!) just to dominate slower drivers (if there are any) but to at least have a fair shot of getting some actual racing. My iRating is about 1000 (pretty crap, well below the average of 1350) and I should never be in split one of three. Or even 3 of 5 (the worst I have had, I think.) I have been enjoying driving the cars on RRE (for many years!) but there is just very little real competition for me on track.
