I'm happy to support the project with purchases. I like what KW is building. I'm compelled to say that the cold tire grip is way too good -- feels extremely gamey. I'm referring to Hypercar here, but it's basically true no matter what car I try. Maybe I'm just used to what iRacing gives us with their updated tire models, and I'm unrealistically expecting RR to be the same. However, I would appreciate far less grip (less console game experience) with cold tires. Also, I'm still not convinced with any of the in-car sounds. Keep on building, KW! We love you.
Coming from iRacing you are most likely on the other extreme of grip. I would agree that RRE is a little more grippy in general (which is not bad). If you compare tires cold temperature at the start of a session, iRacing starts extremely low, where RRE starts around 70, that is most likely make the biggest difference in your perception. I have driven numerous supercars around tracks with track tires, and I can assure you; the grip level is nearly incomprehensible...
maybe it could be a bit more "harsh" but using iRacing as an example of anything related to tires is just wrong, lmao also u need to remember that temperatures here are fixed at like 30c track and 20c air + track is grippy and not evolving beside dirt so it also impacts the grip differences
Do you know what temperatures the tires start at in iracing? In raceroom even without tire warmers theyll start at 35 celsius. If iracing starts at say 20 celsius then that might already explain some of the difference. I would tend to think that tires perhaps warm up a little too quickly in r3e but nothing i could tell for sure
Alright, so as I expected, yes - it is unfair for me to expect 2 sims to be the same. And, unfortunately, RR for now has a more gamey experience. Still glad to see the sim evolving.
??? who said 2 sims have to be the same? We only said that the tire temperatures are vastly different when starting a session. RR does not have an ambient temperature variation has mentioned above. How many high-end cars have you driven on tracks with race tires at optimum temperature without an outside 30 Celsius temp to have such opinion?
I disagree. I have researched thoroughly as well as applying my own real world experience to get to where we are. It's taken thousands of hours of work over many years now. However if you have some sources which suggest otherwise I'm all ears!
I agree with you @Alex Hodgkinson. I have driven many supercars around tracks with racing tires, and I can guarantee the grip is always surprising and astonishing when tires are at optimal temperature. Perhaps, he should turn off TC and ABS and use a more powerful car to see that the tires are not "arcade".
Talking about warm and cold tires... How do we know if our tyres are too cold or at good temperature? I'm not that familiar with the original RaceRoom HUD (used to run OtterHUD for years), but is there a way to have feedback on tyre temps while driving directly from the game itself? I can remember to push some cars like the Mazda MX-5 to its limits (or let's say my limit ) and OtterHUD still showed me four completely blue tyres. Maybe the confusion about grip and temperature is caused by different interpretation of the tyre temperature, also because of different HUDs? We might be expecting low grip due to tyres being displayed as cold even though they are warm and have good grip.
(make sure to bind a button first) then flip the page on the in-car dash until you see the tire temps. Unlike, iracing this is always avail on any car, which I like.
Yup, tire temps can be found on the in car dash. Whether a given temperature is too cold or warm or good for a given tire can only be seen on the setup screen tho (or with external huds if they work correctly)
I love the RaceRoom dashboards for always delivering the information you need, finding the temperatures is easy. My core question was: Apart from the setup screen or an external HUD, do we have any option to see if temperatures are good or bad?
...maybe but that being said, for me, R3E is much more fun and the cars feel more "connected to the road". I loved the iRacing multiplayer experiance but enjoy the R3E driving experiance much much more.
I use all sims with a high-end and finely tuned 7 motions-rig, and RR delivers the most realistic "feeling of proper weight". Perhaps, it's the data from their KW suspension parent company giving them an edge.
