I haven't played for several months and today I updated RaceRoom then played and I only got about 50 fps instead of 100+ fps with the same hw & settings without changes. Were there any changes in the graphics or is this just me? Thanks for any comments.
When did you play the game the last time? There were graphical updates in September, but your FPS wasn't supposed to go down: https://forum.kw-studios.com/index.php?threads/summary-of-graphical-updates.19616/
Should be no changes. You can try deleting Documents\My games\SimBin\RaceRoom Racing Experience\UserData\graphics_options.xml to reset graphics settings. Also check that your GPU is set to "performance" mode for Raceroom. Or try a DXVK option when starting the game.
Thanks for the reply. Appreciate it. I don't remember but at least that long! History showed my last play was Feb 2025 but that the show fps was noticed back then. Thanks for link and I read it. It sounds like that the fps should even improve after the update! Not sure what else is causing the problem. I'm running Win 10. I already set everything to low graphics. Before, I could run with 15 cars at 100 fps and now with only 3 cars I got 40-50 fps.
Make sure to delete the preferences, and pick "Vulkan" and your graphics API when asked. Made a HUGE difference for me. 240 fps consistently everything on Ultra at 5120x1440.
Um... I tried: - delete graphics_options.xml : no change - when starting raceroom, there were 4 options; standard (that I'm running), VR, DXVK (crashed when I tried) and 32-bit. (have no 'Vulkan' option)
Yeah, DXVK is Vulkan "wrapper". Have you tried forcing your GPU to "performance" power mode for Raceroom? Run GPU-Z and check what PCI-E mode it's running in. Try a clean reinstall of GPU drivers. You're not the first one with this problem, but I can't remember what else you can do, off the top of my head. Maybe someone else remembers. Upd: One person reported that updating motherboard BIOS fixed a similar issue for him.
When I tried to start with dxvk it crashed but I'm not sure why I need it as I'm not on Linux? It said "DXVK is a Vulkan-based translation layer that allows Windows games using Direct3D 9, 10, and 11 to run on Linux using Wine."
It's not only for Linux. In Raceroom it was found that it redistributes some load between CPU cores and thus helps with framerate.
I have been running raceroom on this old system of mine for a few years with 100+fps but now it's only 40-50 fps. This computer is used only to run raceroom and Richard Burns Rally: Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4790 CPU @ 3.60GHz 3.60 GHz Installed RAM 16.0 GB Storage 932 GB HDD ST1000DM003-1CH162 Graphics Card NVIDIA GeForce GTX 745 (4 GB) System Type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor
After playing around, now the FPS display on my top left corner disappeared. Yes, I already checked Steam's in-game setting and "show performance monitor" is on. How do I get it back?
Never mind. It was cut off for some reasons... It shows up when I ran in the 'windowed' mode. Weird. I never ran windowed mode before.
I have had mixed experience today: (1) this morning: 25 x DTM 92 AI (@95%) at Hockenheim Classic Grand Prix - very smooth (2) this afternoon: 25 x Super Tourer AI (@95%) at Silverstone Classic Grand Prix - can't quantify it but framerate was below playable level - had to give up [EDIT - probably a tired PC it seems - all fine 24 hours later]. Both in VR. Textures? Random? Answer: random PC issue most likely, Reporting just to add a data point - in case others have similar issues. I'll try again tomorrow. A few months ago, I had FPS issues... I re-installed my Windows 11 and RRE, and ran the DXVK API and everything was working well afterwards, extremely well.
