How do you defend your position in ranked multiplayer race without incident point being added? I lost about 25 reputation points over the past 6 races.

I tried my best not to touch other cars from behind, and stay on my racing line when other car chasing my car closely. I listened to CrewChief to stay on my line, and I only crossed it when CrewChief says "Clear". However, when other car overtook my car and crossed into my line suddenly, my car hit the other's tail and 4 incident points were deducted from me.

At the end, incident points were accumulated to the limit and I was disqualified.

Maybe I should stay in offline race. I am not qualified to play online :p

What if I am head on head towards the right corner… and I am on left and the other is on right. I stay on outer lane but the other tries to cut into my lane (maybe due to understeer) and hit my car on side?

My incident point was increased by 4… and I encountered this scenario many times.

I did a Super Touring sprint race just now... successfully... gain 9 reputation points.

The tricks are ... for my skill level ...

    1) Stay further behind if the corner is congested
    2) When someone is behind me closely and seems pushing me, step aside and slow down a bit to let other passing
    3) When someone is head-on-head with me and we are approaching a corner, slow down a bit and let other passing
    4) Pass someone only if I can keep 1 car width away from the other

I am 1351 in MP Rating and 51 in MP Reputation now. I use 130 MP Rating and 35 MP Reputation to learn the tricks. Quite expensive.:oops::oops:

Just driving off into the distance should do the trick ;)
If that doesnt work id pick a side on the straight pretty early to make sure i make clear how im gonna play things. If we then arrive side by side to a corner and the corner reasonably allows for it ill keep it side by side and hope the other driver decides to give me space to live, otherwise ill back out and try to get a better exit. However i wouldnt choose that approach when being more mid to back of the pack, wouldnt put enough trust into the others there so i wouldnt try hanging on around the outside and id only keep the inside if im at least fully alongside, better yet slightly ahead, before the turn in point. Otherwise id consider backing out and setting up the exit the safer thing to do. Ultimately some contacts are bound to happen tho when youre involved in a lot of overtaking/defending

Just take your line, and stick to it, if you're on the inside, just watch to not understeer and end up touching the other car.
If you're on the outside, brake stronger, there's a lot of chances that you can cross the lines and get back infront at the acceleration.
Use a radar if you can, that will help you reduce the situations where you don't see the other coming.
And, a special advice, really often, the pilot in front will do the mistake by himself if you put pressure and stay close behind him.
You'll have an easy free pass!

I played Super Touring Ranked Race another time just now. There are 2 cars including mine. In the first chicane, my car was pushed outside of the track. The most strange thing was ... when I got back to track and almost finished the first lap, I saw a red message "... kicked ...". The message went away quickly and I was forced to leave the race. I read too slowly so I did not see the whole message.

I got back to sign-ups page and saw the race was still in progress. The number of registrants was 36.

I installed the latest Ver.0.9.7.18 before joining the race.

Haha, I lose 5 MP Reputation and the one who pushed me out of the track gains 1.7. What a fair scoring!

I shall join Super Touring sprint at 22:45 GMT+8 (i.e. about 10mins later)... 30 registrants.

Let me play once more before going to sleep... and see if I can gain a bit MP Reputation. :p

If you were kicked it was almost certainly because of a ping that exceeded the limits. Are you joining the european races? If so theres always a risk of that happening to you.

As for fairness, its nothing the system tries to achieve. I can understand the frustration tho, the last time my reputation was where it should be based on on track incidents was years ago at this point :D

Oh no! I see Registered but there is no Join button.

Is it the problem of the latest Ver.0.9.7.18?

I do not know how to check region in Daily Sprint Race. I see the region selection in Weekly and Special... but I am not aware of region selection in Daily Sprint.

Now, I understand why some people complain the MP scoring algorithm. Certainly, this happens not only in RaceRoom.

I would try to adapt and try to enjoy the driving experience.

Maybe its a thing of the past for the dailies then, havent looked at it that closely yet, just saw that you can filter by region in some races
Ive seen reports of this ever since the september 25th update came out. Luckily only seems to happen sometimes and at this point in time you dont get a penalty for registering but not showing up

    1) If you're not around 1700+ rating players, treat others as if they don't know what they are doing. Be as cautious and safe as you can. Trying to go side-by-side with a 1500 rating player probably wouldn't work.
    2) You can also watch replays to see what went wrong and what you could have done to prevent it. That includes letting a faster guy through if he acts too aggressively or erraticaly. To finish first, first you need to finish. Don't risk your race because of some random guy.
    3) In your first 21 races your rating and reputation gains and losses are doubled. So try to improve your reputation while you still have this bonus, because it will be harder to do after that.

How much you gain or lose depends also on your current reputation. This is not very clear and leads to confusion like "why did this guy drive like a maniac but gain +3 while I drive cleanly but only gain +0.5?", but they are missing that they are at 90 rep and he's at 50. Not your case though, but it's still something to keep in mind not to compare gains/losses number-to-number without taking in account other factors.

    More about how reputation works:
    https://raceroom.miraheze.org/wiki/Reputation

Your profile - Race history, click on that race and find yourself in the list, hover your mouse over your incident points. There's probably a "Disconnect: 3 incident points" in there, indicating a ping kick.

    Thanks for your detailed information.

Your words ... To finish first, first you need to finish ... quite inspiring ... is it the famous words of M. Schumacher? Yes. I also watch auto-save replay and see what happened, whether I made a fault or not.

Besides, that race with the red message is my 22nd race. :(

As you instructed, I mouse over the my “7” incident points of the race. Yes... “3 points for disconnect” and “4 points for vehicle”. Interestingly, the driver pushed me out of track from behind also got “4 points for vehicle” and something else with 3 points. It seems that it is the limitation of rule-based auto judgement. Everybody gets the same 4 Incident Points Penalty, regardless who made an un-sportmanship act.

Let me study your Reputation Wiki and study further.

    Thanks, Maskerader.

I read your given Wiki. I have 46 MP Reputation Points now. So, I can gain the points by racing repeatedly in ranked race, slowing down to the last position and keeping it, not overtaking while not lagging behind 1 lap, and maintaining a clean race.

Hopefully, I can get 5 points in next race at best, then maybe 4.5 afterward, ... 4 ... 3 ..., etc.

BTW, after reading the MP Reputation Wiki and with my understanding in MP Rating, it seems that...

    1. If someone needs to touch (or takes risk to touch) the other for overtaking, touch it harder but not too hard to break the front engine.

It is because both attacker and defender get the same 4 Incident Point penalty on touching. If someone can overtake successfully, MP Rating will rise. If a harder touch can increase the overtaking chance, it is a good bet.

    2. I don't know if defender would gain MP Rating on successful defense. If so, “touch it harder” still exists for the goodness of the defender.

I am not trying to find a loophole. I just try to identify irrational thing, if it is obvious.

In that sense, the track with chicane right after the starting grid is very dangerous.

Just joking. Even if my speculations are true, I would not do so.

Many people spend precious time to play online for racing, not for crashing. It is a racing sim, not Mario Kart.

I just want to learn how to survive under existing rules, and try to gain the MP Reputation. For MP Rating, it all depends on my competitiveness. I forget it first.

    Current MP Points: 1348 / 46
    11 MP Races Ago: 1497 / 86

Yes, they call it a shared blame approach, both drivers get the same number of points. The idea is that safer drivers will be involved in fewer collisions on average and will maintain higher reputation than less safe ones. Because developing an automatic system that correctly and reliably assigns blame seems to be a very complicated task, even iRacing, with their high content prices and subscription, use it instead of some blame-assigning system. Gran Turismo, Forza Motorsport and F1 games have blaming systems, but they are not 100% reliable even though they were being developed and improved for many years.

Yes, incidents system and reputation system cannot catch malicious behaviour, that's the job of manual reports.

My tricks together with all your advices work. I played 6 ranked races today, 4 of them are sprint (15min) and 2 of them are feature (Nordschleife NLS 24min).

Current MP Points: 1367 / 69 (After 6 ranked races)
Yesterday MP Points: 1348 / 46 (After 12 ranked races) <--- I treat the loss as a training fee
    MP in September 2025: 1497 / 86 (After 10 ranked races)

I recover a bit of my training fee. Thanks a lot, to all of you. :D:D

Btw, if a chicane is the first corner of a track, I would still start my car at normal pace but I would keep an eye on rear mirror. If any car is very closed to me when near chicane entry, I would slow down my car gradually and let other cars overtaking.

Certainly, this method is not competitive (unless I am a super fast driver who can always start from P20 and finish in P1-5 in a 15min race).
