    Hello everyone,

We have the wonderful Thread from Jona777: Community Circuit wishlist.
    https://forum.kw-studios.com/index.php?threads/community-circuit-wishlist-top-3.2369/

The question is, do the tracks have to be officially licensed?
This question crossed my mind after taking a look at PMR. Not all the tracks there are licensed, yet there is no doubt about which tracks they actually are. (I wonder how the copyright aspect works in that regard.)

Can we get authentic tracks this way and thus save on licensing costs? (Could this be a way to get more tracks into RaceRoom?) I mean, we have fictional tracks and we have official tracks, this would fall somewhere in between.

But is this something the community would accept?

Edit: Because it is likely being misunderstood.

Not really a fan of seeing a fantasy name for a known track but i guess as long as the track itself doesnt noticeably differ from the real thing id be fine with it

The only tracks that I'd buy without them being actually licensed are Le Mans and Monaco. I assume those licenses are more expensive than any other, so I'd be okay with reasonable names like 'Circuit Cote d'Azur' or 'Circuit de 24h' if these are okay from copyright side. However, RaceRoom always tries to get the licenses, which is the right approach in my eyes. 'Derby', 'Lexington' and 'Northhampton' are so ridiculous, as are names in AMS 2 like 'Dave Coulter', 'Mathias Fenstermacher' or 'Gianni Fisco'. In the end, the line between 'okay' and 'not okay' will be individual for each player, and finding the correct line is probably so hard that it's easier to get the licenses. :D

Track artists are limited by time, not licenses

    Can you elaborate on that?

My point isn't about the time it takes to create a track, but rather the cost of licenses, given how long the wish list is.

    My stance is...
I have nothing against fictional tracks.
However, I prefer officially licensed ones. That said, I would also accept authentic unlicensed tracks. Especially if it saves money for KW-Studios and the community.

You asked if we could get more tracks, so you really asked about time. Answer is no, unless there are more artists or they speed up the process (neither is license related) we wont get more tracks.
They have hands full working on licensed tracks- licenses arent an issue- its a matter of time and number of employees

We've heard for years that getting Le Mans is impossible due to license costs, so this actually was incorrect?

its about number of tracks, not specific tracks

If were keeping it strictly to what was said in this thread that conclusion seems wrong.
    It was
Q: could we get more tracks into r3e this way?
A: no, time is already the limiting factor.

    Had it been
Q: could we get more high profile/highly requested tracks into r3e this way?
the answer may well be yes

    Edit: too slow :D

    Both statements are false.

I could have phrased it differently. I admit that.

Can we get authentic tracks this way and thus save on licensing costs?

But it was never about quantity or time. That is something you are reading into it.

yes, false because you edited first post

asking if we can get more tracks and asking if we can get authentic tracks and save license cost are two entirely different questions

    Are you serious?

I have edited the first post to avoid further misunderstandings. The post notes that it has been edited for this reason, but the original text is still included in parentheses so that everyone knows what I am talking about.

Furthermore, the actual question was: Do the tracks have to be officially licensed? It is also phrased unequivocally.
And that was there from the very beginning, too, in case you wanted to make any further insinuations.

i would assume that the answer is that kw studio prefer not to dabble in the dark arts of creating unlicenced tracks

I’ve wondered myself how they handle it from a legal standpoint. But to suggest that what they’re doing is a dark art... wow. I’m steering clear of those implications.
Just close the thread. It’s already gone off the rails enough.

i call it dark arts due to the fact it would be a business that would attempt to protect its intellectual property basically ignoring that premis while using someone elses

It’s all good, Andi. I’m just saying that I clearly distance myself from the statement you made. I want nothing to do with that sort of thing, nor do I want to be associated with it. That’s all.

So you are saying that devs are on purpose refusing to make Le Mans track (it's by far the most requested track in any poll or wishlist), and they decide to make Adria and some other meh tracks that will sell 10+ times less than Le Mans?!?!? Makes no f* sense at all... or it just proves that RR devs don't care 1% about it's community, as proved many times... lately proved by their absurd silence about Q2 update. :)

original question was only, if we could get more tracks into raceroom (by doing what kincaid suggested) and i answered no, because track artists output would still be the same (it could actually be slower, as unlicensed lemans would still require more work than adria :D keep in mind that im not a dev and its all just my opinion)
