I recently attached H pattern shifter and started driving with some cars with manual transmission.

    1. Should I get transmission damage when downshifting at too high speed, but without releasing the clutch?
I thought that as long as I have have the clutch pedal fully depressed there shouldn't be any damage or grinding sound.

    2. Why some cars like DTM 92' don't have any lift-off oversteer? I thought these cars required blipping accelerator on downshifts. In Formula Raceroom I get lift-off oversteer, but not in DTM 92 or Group C cars.

Yes, this is normal. Without syncromesh rings in the gearbox, the speed difference between the input and output shaft of the gearbox is much more important for the driver to control. When the clutch is disengaged the gears on the input shaft are no longer being rotated, whereas in a syncromesh gearbox, oil continues to drive the gears round. If the speed difference is too great the gears simply won't engage, as you've experienced.

Maybe you're confusing some terminology here. Lift-off oversteer is the tendency of a car to oversteer when you lift off the accelerator pedal, regardless of if you're changing gear or not. Is that what you mean?

I'm not sure which gearbox type is in Group C cars or Formula RR Jr , but on both I get transmission damage even when the clutch pedal is fully depressed. I just wasn't expecting that, because e.g. in a real modern road car I don't experience any grinding sound on downshifts as long the cutch pedal is fully depressed. I didn't try extreme cases like downshifting to 2 gear from above 100km/h though.

I think you're right. What I actually meant was, that there's no need for rev-matching in Group C or DTM 92' cars to avoid oversteer on corners or some instability , due to sudden engine breaking on downshifts. I was expecting rev-matching would be needed in these cars for these reasons, but I don't know if was true IRL. It seems I sometimes get oversteer in R3E Group C cars on downshifts when not rev-matching, but only in extreme cases. Again it's definitely needed Formula RR Jr and many cars in AC, but in rFactor 2 Group C cars (third-party mod though) it's also not needed.
Some time ago I saw a video of Nicki Thiim racing DTM 92 cars in R3E and he was blipping the throttle and I assumed it was for this reason.

So should we get transmission damage when changing gears with clutch fully depressed?

Yes if the revs don't match

Ok Thanks. Yeah revs certainly wouldn’t match if I’d release the clutch (downshifting at too high speed). I guess it’s just something that’s not implemented in other sims. For instance in AMS 1 as long as have the clutch pedal fully pressed no damage is simulated. Only after releasing it.

Can’t wait for FFB upgrades, BTW:)
