I recently purchased a Moza R3 wheel set, but it's giving me issues in RaceRoom. When I'm in a multiplayer event, and when I make a mistake, like hitting the curbs too hard, going (slightly) offtrack, and when I continue driving on-track afterwards, my wheel starts to vibrate pretty heavy and keeps doing so. So not the regular 'there is still some gravel on your tires' effect. This vibration is overpowering other FFB effects, and is just plain anoying while driving. This seems to be speed dependent, and is also strongly amplified during braking and steering, to the point where it makes my entire desk shake. At first I thought it was caused by a FFB effect due to some car damage (bodywork, tire puncture, ...), but even after pitting and fixing everything, the vibrations are still there. It's like once they occur, they don't go away until you leave the race. So far, I haven't noticed this behavior in single player practice settings, where FFB works as expected (as far as I know anything about what to expect from FFB). Anyone else has encountered this behavior, and know how to fix it? Is it a R3E issue? Is it a Moza issue? A combination/incompatibility? Thank you!
That's the first time I hear about such issue, very strange. Moza wheels work fine in Raceroom. Can you screenshot your settings in Moza Pithouse?
Thank you for your quick response. I noticed in my settings that I had a preset enabled for another game (probably accidentaly enabled it when discovering the Pit House software, as this is my first Moza, and DD wheel in general). I couldn't find a way to reset Pit House to default, so I removed it completely, reinstalled it and re-calibrated my R3. So I can't show you the settings that were active before this. I just played my first online race after this reset. The wheel feels alot 'heavier' but also more stable, and during this race I didn't had the problem. I will keep monitoring as I play more sessions. I don't which settings exactly are different from before (still learning all the settings in Pit House), but here are my current settings.
Would've been interesting to know what settings made it behave like that. These are my settings, BTW. FFB equalizer and FFB curve I left on default. For Raceroom it's highly recommended to remove (or least drop to low numbers) things like damper, inertia and friction because the game uses fully physics-driven FFB and doesn't need all these post-processing effects unlike other games that usually have effects-based FFB that needs smoothing. Also since your wheel is on a weaker side you might benefit from adding 1-2% of Minimum force in game settings and maybe also increase Bump amplification to bring some road noise and smaller vertical forces.
Thank you for sharing your settings. The problem is still present with my settings, so I tried your settings (with the only difference that I have set Game Force Feedback Intensity to 100% as I have a weaker wheel), but the problem remains. So I started doing some more testing, with different cars and tracks. The problem does not seem to occur with all cars. But the problem is very present with the WTCR 2022 series (all cars but for further testing I used the Audi RS 3 LMS 2021). The problem does not seem to be present (or at least not noticeable to me) for example with the Porsche 992 GT3 Cup series. And I can easily trigger the issue by driving over curbs while braking hard. See the FFB monitor in the two screenshots attached. Same track (Silverstone GP) and same corner. 1st screenshot when entiring the session, 2nd screenshot after triggering the issue by driving over curbs while braking hard.
After you trigger this issue, is it gone if you pit and change tyres? Is it gone if you simply press Esc - Return to pits, and then drive again? If the answer is Yes to both, then that's probably flatspots after you locked the tyres, so a feature, not a bug. You can also try triggering this issue in a GT3 or GT4 car, they have factory ABS so they shouldn't suffer from that (if you didn't turn ABS off completely, that is).
I think you are right. After my post I started searching the forum and came across this topic (for TM wheels): https://forum.kw-studios.com/index.php?threads/crazy-ffb-last-update.15222/page-2#post-205945 If I disable "tire wear", the problem is gone. Also, with tire wear on, when I crank up my volume while driving slowly, I can hear the tier flat spot which is in sync with the FFB vibration. Unfortunately, the fix for TM wheels (modifying the config file) does not seem to work for the Moza R3. Even if I set Code: FFB flatspot magnitude="0.0" the problem remains. So while Flatspot Rumble is a feature, I still believe this is a bug, as it completely overpowers all other FFB, and modifying the magnitude has no effect at all. I'm only not sure who should fix it: Moza because maybe the R3 interprets the flatspot signal incorrectly, or RaceRoom because the setting for lowering the magnitude does not work. Or maybe both.
Thank you for your suggestion. Hands-off protection is already disabled (I'm now using the settings from Maskerader).
Hmm, I didn't expect you to copy it completely. Hands-off protection is off only because I use a custom wheel, not because it has issues. Moza only enables hands-off protection with Moza wheels. Another personal thing is FFB strength, I use 50% because I prefer lower strength FFB (I have R9 base), but on your wheel you can move it up to 100%. Now, for flatspot I don't think there's a fix. The thing you found is from before the FFB update. Old FFB was effects-based which is why you could adjust or even turn off some effects like flat-spots. New FFB is completely physics-based, so the only fix is, well, don't lock your tyres. Work on how you apply brakes or enable in-game ABS. You can also try to lower brake pressure and maybe adjust brake bias to lock-up less often and less serious. Flat spots are an issue in real life too, so if you locked up and got a serious flat spot you might even need to pit to change your tyres because of vibrations and all that.
If I understand correctly, hands-off protection simply cuts FFB off when the wheel thinks you let go of the wheel. It won't interfere like DonC described and it certainly won't be visible on FFB meter.
For my R5, sometimes FFB is getting lost when hit walls & cars or sousage kerbs. I think this is caused because of my outdated firmware.
i agree with the flatspot answer ; in the second image that looks like flatspots on the ffb meter Andi
Thank you all for your answers, and especially Maskerader for sharing his settings and clear spot-on explanations. While I do understand this is a feature, it just doesn't feel right on my wheel, and it would be nice if it was configurable like other FFB settings. So I posted a feature request for this.
And FFB returns back after 10-20 seconds? This sounds like an issue I had when I dropped FFB strength in Moza Pithouse to 30%. I think it was caused by hands-off protection, try turning it off and see what happens.
In addition to my previous advice (about what you can do in the game) you can also try lowering Maximum wheel speed significantly and/or increasing Wheel damper. You can also try FFB equalizer and reduce it at 15, 25, 40 Hz (not sure which ones are the right ones, try them one-by-one). Some of these adjustments should soften the vibrations you have. See which one works the best and maybe return the rest of them to their previous values. Can you try that and tell me if it helped?
Yes! I'm aware of that because of the new firmware details about fixed issues with handsoff protection caused FFB lost. So I am setting this off at first run. Thank you for your support!
