    The Raceroom Advent Calendar 2020
    Corners and Cars

    Start: 29th of November

The (unofficial, but fun) Raceroom Advent Calendar is back for its second year! Over the last months I've gathered another 24 car and track combinations to share with you. They are set to bring you some enjoyment in the busy days and keep you busy if you aren't.
Every morning (10:10 CEST, 9:10 GMT, 19:10 AEST, 4:10 EST, 1:10 PST, 3:10 CST), a new car and track combination will be revealed right here with focus on a specific corner or corner combination. Each advent sunday (29th, 6th, 13th, 20th) will be a free to play combination for everyone who does not own many cars or tracks in Raceroom and decides to give it a go. As the first advent sunday is in November, you'll have to open 25 garage doors this time!

Along the bonus door, here are some new features this year:
Some of the combinations were suggested by the Raceroom Community! I've randomly picked those of the 'What's your favourite car/track combination?' thread.
Each combination should now serve as a daily hotlap competition via the Raceroom Leaderboard. I'll pre record my runs (so maybe don't search me on these boards or you'll be spoiled) and then it's your turn to set the fastest lap. There is no timing limit, no reward and I'm not a really fast racer-so see this as a gentlemen challenge ;)

    Additionally, here's the full calendar:

Hint: Click on 'Watch Thread' on the top right corner to not miss a day
    See you on November 29th!
    Greetings

29th December: Aquila CR1 at Sepang
@Nico Kunze was correct:This year’s Advent Calendar starts off two days too early and with a f2p car and track combination anyone can enjoy: The Aquila CR1 is one of the best-looking lower budget sportscars and does have similarities with prototype cars of higher categories in motorsport. So, what else would we do rather than putting this model out on a premier racing facility in Asia? The Sepang International Circuit is the stage for this car to show its grip: The two S Curves in Sector 2 along with the tricky double right hander following make a worthy challenge for this car. The in-built traction control might not cause faster lap times, especially in this part of the track. Are you ready to start off this calendar? Here’s the leaderboard:

This years advent calendar comes with another special twist:

    Raceroom Ranked Winter Special
Different cars & tracks every day in December

Car and track combinations from this advent calendar thread will be included in the Raceroom Ranked Winter Special! This means you’ll be able to race daily combinations of cars and tracks on official Raceroom Ranked Servers with all the benefits. See you on track!

1st December: Porsche Carrera Cup Germany on the Nürburgring Nordschleife
1st December already delivers a fan favourite track to race on: The Nordschleife is Racerooms most used non f2p track and there are over 20 km of reasons for that. The Green Hell is known to be fast, challenging, and dangerous. A car that has a car that fulfils all those aspects too is the Porsche 911 Cup car, the sprint version used in the 2019 season of the Porsche Carrera Cup Germany to be precise. Unlike the endurance version that laps the Nordschleife regularly in the NLS or 24h races, these cars do not feature ABS or TC, got stiffer springs, and run with high camber angles to get the cold tyres up to temperature. The cars are trimmed knife edge. While the 911 lacks downforce, the high-power output compensates that. Most tricky sections to just name a few are Hatzenbach, Schwedenkreuz and Stefan-Bellof-S. The races are going to be thrilling and one hell of a ride!
@Hervé45 and many, many others picked the Nordschleife and several cars to race with, so another random generator had to help me out and decide what to race here. I hope you’re pleased with this combo!

2nd December: NSU TTS at Mantorp Park
The NSU TTS is a cult classic in the real world and in Raceroom too. Many of the players rate this car high on their list. And I was surprised to see a large amount of well-known hot lappers on the leaderboard chart. This seems to be one of the melting points for these fast guys and now you’ll get thrown into the mix as well. The amount of fun per horsepower is immensely high in this small boy. Mantorp Park is a perfect fit for this icon. The classic Swedish racetrack is known to be a perfect spot for smaller cars and racing rookies. The circuit can be called old school as it has (almost) no tarmacked runoff but just gravel, grass, and curbs. While on the dragstrippen the fastest cars accelerate against each other, the ‘Prinz’ won’t beat a lot of cars on the straights. But the rear wheel driven car takes corners incredible fast, even better when thrown in a bit sideways. @Eric Fogelström suggested this combination and I must say he has quite a good taste!

3rd December: DTM 03/05 at Lausitzring
Back to the 2000’s with a 2000’s track and 2000’s cars! The new DTM started in 2000 with a revolutionary concept that would last about 20 years. Relatively low budget silhouette touring cars with a lot of downforce and a loud V8 engine. The cars from 2003 don’t differ much from the ones used in 2005, so you can pick both if you like to (both have a leaderboard entry by myself). The track layout that I chose for today is the 2005 variant of the DTM racetrack: Short Course. Fast Turn One and that tricky connection loop. The grip through the first S section and the long APCOA turn before the back straight is incredible and the V8 engine does its best to keep your motivation up.

4th December: KTM X-Bow at Hungaroring
What could better fit to a twisty medium fast track than the KTM X-Bow? Close multiplayer races maybe. And we’re doing all these today! The updated Hungaroring needs a proper test with this agile car. And it’s the tricky top S section of Turn 8 to 11 where the KTM feels home most. The car included in Raceroom isn’t that far off the road going KTM X-Bow, the first KTM on four wheels. This results in a track day like atmosphere. The combo is hard to get all turns correct as the car slides quite a lot. But if you get a clean lap done, it will be all worth it!

5th December: BMW M1 at Nürburgring GP
This one is a classic combination. The futuristic BMW Procar from the 70’s and early 80’s drives once more on the Nürburgring. I’ve chosen the Grand Prix Course as the layout to drive. This might not be historic accurate as the Grand Prix Course opened in 1984 but provides a lot of fun. As always, the M1 engine sounds amazing and the car slides around a lot but remains controllable. The circuit is a good proving ground for the cross-ply tyres. You got slow turns, medium fast speed turns, slightly banked ones, and fast direction changes. You feel teleported back to the golden days of motorsport. This combination is worth a lap in third person view. Nowadays, the M1 still drives around the Nürburgring Course as part of trackdays, classic races like the AvD Oldtimer Grand Prix or the 24h Classic. @Jukka Karppinen suggested this challenge and it will be amazing to see some races here today!

    6th December: Saleen S7R GT1 at Stowe
Although this year’s St. Nicholas Day is set to be a f2p combination, Krampus has again thought of something to challenge rookies and veterans of Raceroom alike: Stowe Circuit is known for its tight and twisty layout, what’d better fit than a powerful, low downforce V8 rear wheel driven GTR1 car? Well, almost everything to be honest, but that’s the reason why we’re doing it! Cutting Corners and hitting Cones is what this challenge is about, especially in the first chicane. Threading a needle through pretty much everything is easier than this. And the Saleen is known for loosing grip when doing quick direction changes. We will see what happens on the leaderboard, let’s go!

7th December: BMW M235i at Zhejiang
If you ever fancy to visit a track where the S Section makes up 60% of the whole track, Zhejiang is your choice. You get every type of corner on this 3.2 km long track. And what better car to use than the rather slow, low downforce but good grip BMW M235i? It corners well; weight transfers are dealt flawless. This track might be rather unused by many racers but deserves some spotlight. It has quite some elevation change which you don’t realise until the hairpin comes up. This combination seems to be quite popular with the Chinese players which set very good laps here. Try and challenge them!

8th December: DTM ‘92 Ford Mustang GT at Zolder
Back in the golden days when DTM was the top of touring car racing, the first race was always held at Zolder. Last December, we took the 2016 DTM cars around this tricky Belgian circuit that features four chicanes. This year, we’re doing almost the same. But with cars that are 24 years older. Proper touring cars with only ‘small’ adjustments to their road going counterparts, no uniform monocoque or almost unlimited aerodynamic downforce and tyre grip. One thing that unites both eras is the V8 engine of the Ford Mustang. That’s as close as we’ll get with this. The Mustangs were built and driven by two privateers and their highest position was a tenth place at Hockenheim. We should change that today. The Ford Mustang roars up and down the crests and flies through the chicanes. It might be a rather heavy car, but the top speed and the visuals speek for itself. Be ready to relive the thrill of the 90’s! @FeltHλt and @Dave Brown65 seem to really like this too. So why not try it out yourself?

9th December: Formula Raceroom 2 at Daytona (Moto)
Today, we’re looking at a very underrated combo. The Formula Raceroom 2 drives some laps on Daytona. But it’s the Moto Layout we’re using! The Formula Raceroom 2 was the fastest you could get in Raceroom for years. Until the addition of the FrX-17 in 2017, it was the only car that could take the second chicane at Raceroom Raceway flat out. And that was impressive back then. Nowadays, the regular pick is the FrX-17 with its V10 engine, more downforce, more power and DRS. But the Fr2 deserves this show off. It features a loud V8 engine and no driving aids which makes it, alongside the lack of tyre grip, more difficult to tame than the FrX-17, especially through slow and medium speed corners. The Daytona Moto layout features several of them. This layout is very unused compared to the normal road course which is a bit frustrating. It takes away some boring straight-line stuff and replaces it with a tight and interesting chicane, a closing and then opening hairpin alongside some slow and tricky S curves where the exit is important. So, what else to do than to jump in the cockpit and fire up the engine?

10th December: Cupra E-Racer at Motorland Aragón
Today we’re taking a look at two new but rather unpopular additions to Raceroom: The first fully electric race car, the Cupra E-Racer and the first Spanish track in Raceroom: Motorland Aragon, home for MotoGP and WTCR races. And this combo is difficult to master. Aragon is famous for its fast and sharp corners and direction changes. While the Cupra might have the downforce level of a GT3 car, it also weights more than the normal GT3 car. And that’s the main enemy you must fight here, as well as the temptation to cut corners and run wide on the tarmacked run off areas. The car is tough to get around the medium fast corners consistently so you might have to put some more laps into this challenge than you might think.
