I realize I never tried the truck in triple screen. Yesterday I took it for a few laps around the Scandinavian Raceway. While I didn't have the best session, being able to see more of the interior gave me a better impression of its size. If I had a better shifter, one with buttons and toggles for the gear split and gear range, I might find the truck to be more enjoyable. Edit: Did something about that. Bought a USB shifter knob for truck simulators. It should arrive on the 25th.
while its cool for immersion, in reality u use 2-3 highest gears- u can always switch between H/L tho (i never do that )
I can understand that. I tried automatic and got along better with the truck. Hopefully the shifter will make using the splits and water spray more intuitive for me. It bugged me that I wasn't shifting the gears for myself, even if I was in over my head.
I bound the buttons to the LSB and LT buttons on my WRC wheel, and the left paddle is the water spray. This is much easier to use than having the buttons on opposite sides of the steering wheel. Thanks for the suggestion. Now that manual shifting is easier to manage, where do you race the truck? I practiced at Brands Hatch (thank goodness that upper collisions are not a thing), Suzuka, Scandinavian Raceway, Bathurst (Which was more fun than I imagined it would be) and Charade. Honestly, EVERYONE should take the truck around Charade. I had a smile plastered on my face the entire time I was running the practice session. It was definitely slow going but trying to wrestle with the weight and extra-long braking distance while still negotiating the tight turns, was more fun than a chore. Seriously try it, if you haven't.
Nürburgring, TT Assen, Zolder, Daytona Int. Speedway and Mid-Ohio are tracks on which truck races are held irl.
Brands Hatch Indy is also a track they race at. I've seen YT shorts of British Racing Trucks on the full course, but I do not know how the BRTs compare to European Racing Trucks. Going to look up some schedules. https://www.goodyearfiaetrc.com/events https://www.brandshatch.co.uk/news/...ship-confirms-capacity-lineup-for-2025-season The BTRC races... Brands Hatch, Donington, Snetterton, And back to Brands Hatch.
I got my shifter knob, but there is a problem. Think of being able to bind toggles to something similar to a light switch. It has 2 functions in one switch, an on position, and an off position. The problem is the toggles for the gear range and the gear split can only map to one of those functions. Going back to the light switch example, imagine you have to flick the switch up to turn the lights on, and then to turn the lights off, you have to flick the switch down and then up again. What I would like to see is a gear range low, gear range high, Gear split low, Gear split high, as well as the toggles that are now available. That way I can map each position on the shift knob and the positions wouldn't accidentally change, if I start a session with the switch in the wrong position. The reason for this is, when I bind the gear range or the gear split, it only registers with one direction of the switches on the shifter knob. So, to switch from low to high range as an example, I have to flip the switch twice. I have a generic USB truck shifter knob I got off of Amazon. Search up the one made by Kelegaan. I got it because it was priced pretty cheaply compared to one advertised "for" American Truck Simulator, but has decent reviews... Even if only a handful of reviews. I plan on getting ATS soon, so if it doesn't work with RaceRoom, I'll still get some use out of it. It would be nice to be able to use it with the trucks in RaceRoom though. Thanks for any help with this issue.
Hello, it's nice to see that real-life regulations matter to KW studios. However, a second version of this truck without speed limit could be an interesting addition (maybe with a linked discout of 50% for those who own the other model?) for tracks with longer straights. (Nordschleife...) If you ask me at this point, just removing the speed limiter and making the final gear ratio adjustable in the setup menu should be enough, no other changes need to be done for that 'second' truck.
