    Hello,

As I understand it, there are common traits to all users with this .xml parsing issue and they would be:
    - USA
    - Windows 10
    - Maybe use of webroot ? (when @John Ellis and I met for the teamviewer session, I tried to disable it, it said it was disabled, but we still noticed that it was intercepting things regardless, so it was silently running despite advertising being paused)

Is there anyone not matching those criterias?

My webroot subscription was ending soon anyway, and I can’t recall a single instance over the past year where webroot did anything worth mentioning, so I opted just to utilize Window’s own security suite with my recent Windows 11 installation. I noticed there was a small R3E update yesterday, and the sim continues to work without issue since a fresh install of Windows.

Here are my latest from a few minutes ago. Getting stuck at the last menu before racing. All yesterday, I couldn't start the sim at all.

@Stormin_Norman24 and @axial - are you both using webroot?
All those game.log files show the same symptoms for both of you - .xml files that the game requires are blocked and the game cannot open them.

I am using Webroot. I turned it off a few times to try launching without it, but nothing changed. Although, if you found that it somehow still activates when turned off, then that may explain something.

Yes, I have Webroot but turned it off with no change. I have been using it for many years with no problems until mid July.

It must have been an update to webroot that caused this, I assume.
When we looked at it with @John Ellis , we saw that pausing the protection had no impact and it still had activity.

I sent a mail this morning to webroot notifying them about this issue, but if I don't hear back from them, I would suggest you contact their support as well.

If they don't reply, I guess I should post a steam news article about this so players are aware.

Many thanks for your work on this issue. I asked Google when was WEBROOT last update in 2025 and this is what I got.

Webroot had several updates in 2025. The latest update for the endpoint agent was version 9.0.41.32/Core 1.11.0.9, released on August 12, 2025. Additionally, there was a core build update (1.9.0.28) released on April 3, 2025. There was also a PC version update (9.0.40.53) released on June 25th, 2025. Finally, a Mac build (9.7.0.68) was released on April 20th, 2025.

    ALSO:
How do I know if my Webroot is up to date?

    To check for SecureAnywhere updates:
    1. Open SecureAnywhere.
    2. Click the gear icon next to My Account.
    3. Click the About SecureAnywhere tab and click Check for software updates. If a newer version exists, Webroot downloads the updates to your system.

we dont know how up to date your web root is
    we just have this
4 people using webroot have issues
all 4 are suffering the exact same issue in the logs
1 person has uninstalled it and can play the game

    this is what we have

honestly from my part, not that of the devs ,
this may be the root of the issue
so take the tool from webroot , uninstal it
try r3e,if it works you know
    reinstall and hassle there support
if not we will keep looking at the issue

Webroot was indeed the culprit, I was able to get into the game, Thank you.. Now what do I do with protection? I'm curious to know what they did cuz RaceRoom has worked flawlessly for 2 years with Webroot running. Are you still going to let Webroot know about this?

Also can confirm Webroot is the issue. Uninstalled and got into the game with no problems.

I'll have to look into getting another internet security software too.

Looks like that worked for me as well.
Thanks for helping us through this, and if anyone's looking for another antivirus, Bitdefender has a good free option that is well-received.

Cool, let's see if webroot support replies to us. If not, next week I'll post a steam news to warn about it.
I've renamed this thread for a bit of clarity

I want to thank KW Studios and everyone involved in solving this issue, it was very frustrating in the beginning but with a bit of patience and perseverance, we were able to find the problem. Thanks again, I am now a happy RaceRoom racer..

Ditto. To be honest, these past 2 weeks or so, have been frustrating. I'm glad that the source of the problem has been found.

I am still using Webroot, because I am cheap. But I do uninstall it whenever I want to play Raceroom. Every time I uninstall it. I fill out their survey and tell them its because their program is blocking Raceroom from running.

Just so I am 100% clear with my complains to Webroot, their service is deleting Raceroom's - .xml files, correct?
