Hi All. Brand new to Raceroom coming over from iRacing. Just been reading through some blogs over the last few months and I noticed that tracks started to receive updates to the 2024 standard in Sep 2024. Is this something likely to continue? Is there a roadmap of what is being worked on currently?
Is it possible to keep the "older" versions of a track as a standalone? Don`t need a 2024 Monza when racing 2020 DTM for example.
They're only doing this for tracks with big changes like Zandvoort or Indianapolis. For all other tracks with minor changes, this would take up way too much disk space.
All current tracks take up 19GB, with 70 tracks that's around 270MB per track on average. I think the game can handle a few older versions of some tracks considering that not all of them recieved any updates. If it's also possible to split a 3D model into several files, then an updated version might weigh just a fraction of the full size of the track assets.
I didn’t know licensing was so complicated. So even if you have a license, do you still have to get permission to update the tracks even if they have been updated in real life? Does it also affect which sponsors you can place at the track as well? Is licensing the reason Spa has disappeared?
Licensing can affect almost anything and agreements can be different in each case. For us, players, without knowing the exact details, it only makes sense to keep in mind that licensing exists and might impose some limitations seemingly out of nowhere. But we don't know why Raceroom, or any other sim, does things the way they do - can be licensing limitations but can very well be something purely internal that they can re-evaluate and change. So it shouldn't let us stop from suggesting how the game can be improved.
Talking about chances in layout, not smaal updates to improve an existing track. But i really miss the bridge before second chicane in Monza as a perfect example. And disk space is not an excuse anymore in 2025...
Feels like a terrible example tbh Had you said you miss the kerb in ascari i wouldve agreed (on it being a substantial layout change, not about it being better ) but a bridge has nothing to do with the layout at all
It does in terms of the atmosphere and feeling when driving the track. And did someone say Spa is no longer in game I cannot check right now ? Is that true, so we paid for it and they can just delete it ? Surely No !
It's not available in the store, but if you bought it you can use it. But also yes, game companies, if it's an always-online game that requires being up-to-date to even run, can absolutely delete something in their games even if you paid for it. There are examples of that out there, one that comes to mind is Destiny 2. A ton of story lines and several locations were deleted and don't even exist in your game files anymore.
Okay thanks, glad it is still there. pCars2 license also ran out but own it and can still drive it. Cheers
As I’m new to Raceroom I’ve yet to purchase SPA, is it going to be available again? It was thought to be a bug originally but it’s been over two weeks without any official word so I’m assuming the license has expired which would be a big loss.
Spa is pretty much the only track with bigger changes that hasn't been updated yet. Maybe they weren't able to update it because of these licensing issues? Or maybe they're working on a new laserscanned version?
Then you would surely give customers a heads up to buy it without delay before it is removed as now it is one less item to sell. Having said that, there is previous of items being removed with no advance warning and not being replaced by a newer one either.
