Hi all, I plan to join a WTCR championship and have to choose a car. Are there any significant differences between the years 2018, 2019 and 2020 in terms of performance? I think it will be a mixed field of the cars from these years, so I wouldn't want to gimp myself by picking the wrong car. I'm planning to take the 2020 Audi RS3 LMS as it has the newest physics and will test drive the other cars tonight but would like to hear your opininon on this. I haven't raced TCR's in RR extensively so I don't know the differences. Thanks!
Pretty sure all TCR´s have the same physics and similar performances. So for example, the 2019 RS3 and 2020 RS3 are the same, just different liveries and drivers. In multiplayer you have to own a 2020 RS3 to compete in a WTCR 2020 race but in singleplayer you can mix all cars from different years.
Depends of the server. Nothing prevent for "multiclass" in multiplayer. Official Ranked server allow all TCR class to be together: TCR 2018, 2019, 2020 and TCR Cup are allowed to race. (Same for modern DTM BTW). There my be some BOP with weight added to some cars, but it's fair to say that you can pick whatever car you want and still be competitive.
The devs said they BOPed WTCR cars from previous years to make sure all these cars are competitive with the recent ones. Of course it doesn't necessarily means they are identical in speed, but I though it was worth mentioning. Also I heard Megane is kicking right now; it received 12kg ballast on this week's ranked MP servers, but Lynk received 6kg as well.
Thanks for the answer everyone. I decided to go with the 2020 Audi RS3 as that is what I have driven in iRacing so it feels familiar. However there is one thing with this specific car that I am unsure about - the power band. I have seen people shift either at the last green/first yellow light or as late as red light, so I'm not really sure. Does anyone know the optimal revs for shifting in this car to keep it in the power band based on these figures/experience? Power 257 kW (350 hp) @ 6250 rpm Max torque 420 Nm @ 2500 to 5500 rpm
You can see the optimal revs for upshifting in the setup menu under the engine settings. They depend on the gearing. In any case, the gear indicator turns green when you have reached the optimal upshift range, and turns red when you have gone past it.
Yeah I understand the general way it works (hopefully, lol), and normally you would shift as the lights build up(green, yellow, red), just before the whole rev meter flashes, but this engine is a bit specific since it's very torquey and reaches top torque at 2500rpm, and I have seen people, like for example Dan Suzuki who is a rather fast youtuber, shift quite early in this car - at least that was my initial impression. In any case, I will check the setup page in-game, but it would be cool if someone who understands this car could chime in. Even though it is for GT3s in ACC, this is a good explanation for various cars. Having something like this for WTCR cars would be awesome
Audi RS3 is a 4WD car, whereas Audi RS3 TCR is a FWD car, I'm pretty sure the drive feeling would be totally different. I believe that the Audi TT in R3E would be similar as Audi RS3
