I love GT3 racing, my most played sim is AC, so naturally I was (and still am) very hyped for ACC. I am not trying to bash or judge ACC, but so far it runs a lot worse, and doesn't look that much better. Sure, comparing the bland Nurburgring GP from AC to ACC it looks like a great improvement, but we lose so much image quality due to UE4, especially in movement and distance. Just compare the detail in the dash cam to the cockpit cam. The textures from further away lose so much fidelity for some reason. It is not the case with AC or R3E. On the handling side of things I feel like ACC is a big improvement though. I WANT them to turn it around, find some TAA tweaks, optimize. I am sure it will be better. But whenever I see a game based on UE4 I want to pick up, all I see is bad performance (recently Insurgency Sandstorm and World War 3) and not so groundbreaking graphics. So I don't even buy them. Sure, my PC is not a beast, but the visuals/performance ratio is not right with UE4 for some reason.
We'll tell you more when time is right, but there will be a lot of gifts under the christmas tree this year.
I am not a U4 fan either, particularly, I mention it because S3 mentioned it, that's why I end with, which ever way they go regarding a new engine. My point is, the present engine is at it's limit, JF's words, not mine. So something has to happen if we want progression, U4 has been mentioned and there are other ways to go. I'm also not sure all developers get anywhere near the best out of U4, as I have seen it implemented well on the odd occasion, must admit, other than ACC I don't think there is one U4 title in my present library. I have no idea which is the best way for S3 but as I said, to fall behind in such an active market is perilous. As for people who've already purchased RR but don't have a high spec PC then I'm sure both could be run in parallel for a time as Automobilista did. I'm also pretty sure this topic is incurring massive amounts of head scratching at S3 HQ as I type. The graphics, as is, I'm fine with, it looks great (could be better) but to compete with the other titles it is going to require more, much more. Be interesting to know what your thoughts are, in the direction S3 should go, if not U4 then what, Vulkan, another? Don't keep up with it much, other than what I read on Tom's or Guru3d etc. As for AC, to me it's always been dead but as with regards to Joe public, yes it will be loved for a while but slowly they will drift to other titles, just as GTR2 & Race07 & Colin McRae & TOCA2, all great titles, all dead through evolution, people always want more, you can't polish a turd anyway! Just never connected with AC, purchased RR & AC on the same day in Jan 2013, have supported both titles without prejudice but have never clicked with AC, just find it lifeless & dull. Have enjoyed the DTM revival to be honest but do look forward to the day I can eventually free up some more HDD space! I've mentioned it too many times but in these competitive times, you have be so consistent that old sods like me can't swap from sim to sim and maintain any form whatsoever. It's a case of knuckle down on one sim and use all the others for joy rides, gawd knows how people find the sodding time to be Billy Wizz on all sims. Finally I prefer this forum, all got a bit feisty a few years back on AC's, bans being bandied about and a bad vibe in general, kinda drifted away since then. Not to sure why people are so keen to slow down evolution, by the middle of next year they'll have mostly drifted over to ACC or another title. This is another reason why I like the RR ethos of evolution, we all evolve together. The only thing that changes is what we all moan about.
Every big patch includes game updates as well as new content. This one will be no exception. I'll better shut up now, before everyone starts over-analyzing every single word
You're too late by 3 messages Georg Ortner, start sharpening your pitchforks girls, we've offices to storm!
AC will stay popular until a new accessible modding platform is released. I don't see it happening for a while.
Keep your eyes on rF2, moving forwards nicely, may well become the modders choice in coming years, who knows!
