here i made this steam community guide on how to run a Raceroom dedicated server on the Amazon free services. http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=708415655
While I've got your attention, are there any admin controls, kick, ban etc? I can't see any mention anywhere. Thanks.
Not so far, sadly. Those functions are on the list of planned improvements but when they will be available I don't know. What you can do is password-protect your server, but that's about it for now.
You can rent a normal windows server and then just copy the dedicated server app to the windows server and run it. I've rent a virtual windows server at hosteurope and it works perfectly.
I watched that video you linked me, it was very helpful and I want to look into that more, I know Amazon are known for offering free services then taking money from your account without warning, so I want to be sure, seeing the prices after that free period are very high.
A windows server is a lot more than a game server, I can get an Assetto Corsa server for £4 per month.
All I can tell you is nothing was charged and I used it for 5 hours at a time once in a while. From what I understand is you can use it for 750 hours without getting charged. Someone commented on the video that you get use it for 750 hours per month for a whole year. ( but I'm not sure about that either ) Find more info and let me know. But like I said above I was never charged anything
I did a google search earlier, many people getting charged big money on this service. I was charged £70 last year be Amazon for something else, luckily I got it back. Amazon have a history of misleading "free" deals.
Oh yeah there is no doubt that Amazon likes to hide charges. That's the reason why I couldn't get a straight answer on their charging system.
Have you more info for how to do this? I know how to run a dedicated server but have no idea how to do this extern
Do you guys think there is a need for ad-hoc Raceroom Servers with a per per use fee? Would you pay for such a service?
