Just out of curiosity, I just got one and am extremely surprised by the extra fun it added (I haven't driven real cars for a long time). Makes the "slow car" classes even more fun (dtm, classic touring, prinz...) and quite a work-out with manual clutching.
I am trying to get use to it...new at it and pretty terrible to be frank atm. If I had a better shifter and it in a better position, more natural, I wouldn't have too much of an issue with it.
Yes, I'm using a fanatec clubsport shifter sq 1.5. Coming from my logitech g25, I always had the possibility of using paddles, sequential or h-shifter. When I switched over to csw v2, I just had the BMW M3 GT2 wheel. It felt a bit strange of using clutch and releasing throttle for upshift with paddles. Otherwise revs increased. I like driving as close to real as possible, too. With the cs shifter it's a great, firm feeling, either sequential and h-pattern. Using toe-heel with the right pedals, you feel ..., well, you can call me Walter, Hans-Joachim, James, Stirling, Niki or what you like!
CSS 1.5 also here ... don't use the H all the time as I prefer the sequential, but it does give a good feeling to use in a classic like the Capri and you have to concentrate bit more = slower laptimes for me !
I adapt my shifting method to what a car would have in real life, so depending on what I'm driving it's: - H-shifter with auto-clutch off - Sequential with auto-clutch on - Paddle shift with auto-clutch on
I use the H-Shifter but i have many troubles to do heel/toe shifting. I have a bad right knee from playing basketball and after 15 minutes the knee gets soar and fluids are present. I would love to have a button or something to match revs while shifting, i even have thought at moments to make a special gas pedal mod to do better H-shifting.
I own Thrustmaster H shifter, but mostly I have it in sequential mode as I play with cars using sequential gearboxes.
after a bit more time with the H shifter (thrustmaster), this whole heel/toe thing is quite a challenge so I second the matching rev optional feature idea, as auto-clutch feels too much like cheating
I use th8a shifter both in H-pattern and sequential mode ... but sometimes is shift with paddles too but with seq shifter it's more fun
It is challenging, but so rewarding once you get the hang of it. Took me a couple weeks forcing myself to do it to feel competent, then many months to cut out the frequent mistakes. It sucks spinning the car because you missed a heel toe shift, but when you get it right and put in some clean laps, it's very rewarding. edit: after setting up my new rig, its taking to some time to get used to my new position of g27 shifter - I still miss gears from time to time.
TH8A shifter, mostly in sequential mode, but sometimes in H-pattern. And the secret weapon for Dirt Rally: Analog handbrake mode.
any of you guys double-clutching (clutch -> neutral -> blip -> clutch -> gear) on the downshifts? I know it's not necessary for the game but it would have been used a lot in some of the historics. I can manage the heel-toe thing with a nicely timed blip to smooth out the downshift, but I'm doing this as I shift, with the clutch in. I simply don't have the brain power to double-clutch properly while I'm busy braking for a corner thinking about corner entry and stuff
