For the eighth round of the eSports WTCC, it was time to go to China, for a race on the Shanghai International Circuit.
Division 2 was first, and there was a four way battle between Adam Stivin, Mesca Vlad, Manuel Alves and Tommy Razeyre for the win. In the end, it was Frenchman Razeyre, taking his second win of the year.

In Division 1, Gergo Baldi converted his strong pre-event pace into another pole position. The two championship favourites Jan Stange and Márk Nándori both qualified within the top 10, trying to gain as many points of possible to overtake the absent Alexander Dornieden in the standings.

Baldi won the start and led the race ahead of his Wauters Automotive teammate Kevin Siggy Rebernak. A bit further back, Nándori managed to gain places throughout the race with an uncharacteristically aggressive approach, while Stange dropped back. As Baldi extended his lead, Rebernak got into a heated battle for second place against Frenchman Leaune. This allowed other drivers, such as Nándori and Banki, to close up. Rebernak pulled off the move of the year against Leaune in turn 1, but after a controversial move in the hairpin by Nándori, Rebernak dropped back and it was Bence Bánki who moved up onto the podium. Gergo Baldi was not in danger though and took a dominant win in his Volvo. Nandori finished in 4th, and overtook Stange in the standings who came 8th.

For the second race, Norbert Leitner was on pole position. Jan Stange already tried to move up the grid at the start, but small contact between him and Nikodem Wisniewski meant that he was shuffled back again. At the front, Leitner, Guillaume Theot and Wisniewski gapped the field, while Nándori and Rebernak, and Stange and Leaune got into heated battles. Race one winner Baldi had to park his car early on with technical issues. Halfway through the race, Wisniewski managed to pass Theot, and closed the gap to Leitner. Just before the end, he managed to pull off a pass around the outside in the final corner, and the Polish driver of FEEDER Ragnar Simulator scored his first win of the year. Leitner was second, but another big winner was Nándori, who managed to finish on the podium.

Márk Nándori is now in the provisional lead of the championship ahead of Alexander Dornieden. Stange’s title hopes took a hit in the event, but there are still two rounds left: Suzuka in two weeks, and then the final race at Macau, where anything can happen.
