First Look and Test Of WRC 9

The game is not so bad after some tweaking with settings of various kinds. I had to set it to 60 Hz Vsync and make sure the frame rate sticks to a solid 60 fps, to get it to run smooth. Not sure how resource hungry it actually is, but it's difficult to get it running smoothly. Easier than WRC 8, though.

Still not the most flexible FOV settings either, but better than WRC 8. So they are getting there.

And I agree that the stages are generally very well done!

I haven't played it since release, have the updates done it any good?

I have no ideas how it was on release, the number one issue I have with it now is some weird screen freezes at random every now and then, they totally mess up your stage run if you get them while driving.. .

 

Tried setting it to 60Hz Vsync, don't want to say too much yet, but so far, the stages I've done after that have been freeze free!!

Can't say I'm surprised that you ride a Monkeybike on a frozen lake. It just doesn't get more Swedish than that.

I'm just sad that the FOV in WRC9 is totally warped when running a 32:9 monitor. I can work it with 16:9 or even 21:9, but with 32:9 it's just unbearable. Anyone know a good solution for this?

 

Thanks, will check it out. It has some mods to the camera restrictions, apparently. Don't know if it will fix the fov, though. The peripheral vision is extremely stretched.

 

...and the mod is outdated and doesn't work with the latest version. Hopefully it will be updated soon.

I tested the equal mod for WRC 8 though, and it was pretty neat. If it does the same for WRC 9, I actually think I'm going to give it a new chance. But it HAS to run 60 hz vsync AND 60 fps frame cap, to run completely smooth. Every other option I have tried is choppy. 60 fps is ok-ish, as long as it's smooth.

 

I can't believe that game doesn't offer proper FOV or telemetry output for motion rig and buttkickers. What a waste!

 

Actually, SimHub now offers limited telemetry support for the game! That's what brought me back. Check out the latest version of SimHub from simhubdash.com, and install the telemtry patch here:

It works quite well with buttkickers, and a simple external dash.

With CM taking over in 23 they might not be very motivated to put much more effort into that series - just speculating tho...
