They're probably already drinking Martinis and laughing, well knowing that their beta stage game is already way better than SMS's released product...
I was one of the bakers for PCars and AC and I bought R3E because of the excellent steering with gamepad (AC is also good). enough said....
Nah, I wouldn't close a thread like this just because we're talking about another game on their forum (Elite Dangerous has one about Star Citizen, and it's humongous). After all it seems it proved to be quite helpful as we have reported impressions & ideas about a competitor and it also has brought up very clearly what the community thinks about the status of things with R3E sim. Happy to be the scapegoat of all this... if it helps/helped even in minimal part S3S decisions and clear any doubts...
Well, after few hours spent in CARS I can say, that the game is not bad at all (apart from horrible menu - even worst than in R3E . But only until I try to compare it to R3E in the same time and with the same car and track. I tried to insta switch between the two in combos like Mercedes 190E on Sonoma and Capri on Bathurst and CARS doesn't stand a chance in such comparison. It holds it grounds only graphic-wise, but FFB is worse (even after some time spend on tweaking it), sound is just from another distant and ugly galaxy and driving is much more forgivable and easier (going off-track is usually not a big deal - you can come back anytime you want). And it doesn't have decent racing series representation - only random cars from various classes.
Seriously speaking it was a hypothesis with underlying irony about what to do if this thread would really go down the drain ...but plz don`t take me too serious in this matter.. Also from observation I see that the hype is full running, lots of players over there at Pcars.....about two weeks give or take and anything is back to normal and maybe we miss some friends who deserted... In the end all racegames have the same topic which is to circle around a track as fast & efficient as possible. So for best results you should chose what suits your personal needs best - or you even got it already (but just forgot , distracted by something else )
Hey this thread still living and breathing this tells me that Sector3 is open to discussions which is awesome! I remember some add-on dev for FSX where you could never ever talk about or even remotely mentionning another add-on from a competitor even if it wasn't commercial! I did cheat on R3E a few more hours and was taking notes for bug report but then I realized that I am not a beta tester! As a punishment I should load R3E and drive the car that I am the most terrible in and not stop until I get a perfect lap!
Agree. There's a limited amount of fun in racing an Escort MK1 or a Sierra Cosworth when there are practically no other cars in the same class. I'm a big fan of classic cars, but no big fan of one-make racing. Except perhaps the M1 Procar series. And that's one of the things I really love about R3E: Sector3 is doing a really good job keeping all the classes populated and properly balanced, without compromising realism too much. DTM 1992 and Group 5 are perfect examples of this. And even the Touring Classics class has three cars in it, with probably at least one more on its way. Then add mostly complete ADAC and recent DTM series and you've got a winner. I my eyes, at least.
Another thing that makes me saying this is more a simcade then else, is that I've run a few laps with the rain and apparently there's not really that much difference from dry asphalt. Plus, driving on kerbs under this circumstances should be slippery like banana peels on the ice but instead you can run on it like Tonya Harding without a blink. Not to talk when I drow on the grass: speed lost, that's it. mmmh...? Dynamic weather has been put there just to answer to the cries of many. And now they're shouting "hey look at those sexy cars all wet in the rain!" arrrr. Truth is that it's 80% fx and 20% physic. But hey if it gives you the impression of accomplishing something tough... well not here to spoil the fun!! On the bright side I found two cars that are quite well done: Clio and Lotus. Those seem to have a nice physic and ffb. But overall it's like a big cauldron full of veggies: some are cooked and some have boiled for too little. Luckily we've rib eye steak and beer on our Steam Library... wait let me post the screenshot for you [/fanboy]
Yeah it's got great graphics, if you hit a wall it will leave marks. I get it, it's pretty and fps are much higher than in R3E with my setup. But, with that is coming in R3E in terms of "experience" and feel...
It sure has its moments, but it very much reminds me of Shift 2. Which I played quite a lot, actually. It takes a lot of tweaking to become moderately satisfied with the settings, but you're never going to be 100% happy, and the urge to tweak some more returns after a short while when you realize that you're still not "quite there". When settings are spot on right from the box, things are so much easier! And like you say, some cars are good, some just aren't. I haven't come across any cars that are in fact undrivable (like the Ford GT40 in Shift 2 was), but they sure do vary a lot, depending on how lucky they were when defining their physics I guess. The FFB is better after some tweaking, but still not impressive. The immersion increased a lot when I finally got SimVibe working, which kind of compensates for the weak FFB. The game also stutters a lot, even though it runs steadily at 75-95 fps and vsync enabled. I suspect this has to do with the fact that I cannot select 1080p 60 Hz, only 59 Hz, which causes some kind of sync problem with my tv or something. Just guessing, really. This I will need to investigate further. I discovered I have the same problem in RBR also, which leads me to believe this isn't entierly pCars' fault.
@Fleskebacon Try disabling vsync in-game and enabling it in your GPU driver software. I don't have PCARS but got the 59hz issue in GTA V and this advice cured the problem for me.
I don't have PCARS but it sounds like BUD LIGHT. I like R3E. It's like a cold North Coast Old Rasputin Imperial Stout. Mmmmmmmm
I'm no Alien but if ACE is the best AI you can get then I must be GOD...I ran three laps in the Clio and wooped the best AI by a second in quali at Donnington and I'd hardly got up to speed and they just drive off the track when they get anywhere near you half the time. I really tried to get some performance out of it after work, I overclocked my gpu, got it to do the AA and Filtering but to no avail. Windows 10 apparently helps.
Been tweaking with all sorts of stuff and tried almost every suggested solution I could find out there. But nothing. I was even able to get 60 Hz showing in the pCARS setup menu, but that didn't solve it either. I get the impression this is a "known" Nvidia bug that you get on some tv-screens running 60 Hz. The strange thing is, in R3E and other games it's no problem at all, no matter what settings I use. So it's obviously not entirely an Nvidia-bug.
I have decided I'm not going to play PCars any until I get my wheel and pedals. I fired it up yesterday and noticed they'd patched it. They did something with the controllers and my 360 controller was right back to the same jerkiness and god awful oversteer in the corners to the point where I spun out in most every corner I drove into. This is one thing that I absolutely cannot fathom about this game. The majority of people who play this game are probably on a console using a controller. You'd think that would be spot on and the controls would be amazing using either a dual shock 4 or an XB One Controller. The majority of people who play rFactor, rFactor 2, R3E, GSCE, and AC are more than likely on a wheel but all of these sims play amazing with a 360 controller. It's kind of the opposite of how you figure it would be.
Im tired of the dynamic weather allready in this game, its scripted for career mode so the weather is the same ALL the time. Everytime it rains for me then I know how the weather will be, I know exactly when its going to stop rain etc. Like if it rains in the start of the qualify. Then I just wait to its 10minutes left, then drive out on slicks and struggle for grip on the outlap but then its dry. Sine I know I have max 2laps on me before it starts to rain again. I just can't understand why the went for scripted weather for career mode... And also that AI is not affacted by brake temp, tire temp, changing weather in the race where it starts to rain but they continue on slicks like it was a dry nice day in Bahrain etc etc. So I bought this game mainly to have a sim with proper career mode, but with all the bugs and scripted weather its not fun att all right now...
I still cant find a good gamepad setting for 360 pad in rFactor 2, do you have a good setting? Thats one of the only game that it doesnt have good gamepad setting out of the box. I had done a whole season of Clio cup, I only had rain once while my brother never even had rain for his GT3 and Ginetta Cup season. It seemed randomised to me. Thats odd.
Cheeseman send me a PM and I'll see if I can send you my rFactor 2 Folder with controller settings or upload em somewhere (dropbox etc where you can download it). I do pretty good with a controller in RF2. The important thing in both RF1 and RF2 is to make sure you have a bit of a deadzone adjustment. When I first got RF1, the car pulled to the Right something awful. I just played around with settings till I figured it out and it did the same thing with RF2.
