You have chosen to separate the service from the content, they are part of the same business model. A business model that seems to work. If people pay the money it isn't too expensive, the market decides. It may be too expensive for some people, in the same way that I can't afford a Ferrari and I can't justify a golf club membership, but that's life. I don't go around saying Ferrari's are too expensive and they shouldn't exist just because I don't have one. As an aside, I wouldn't be surprised at all if most of the people who put down iracing have never actually played it. For the record, my iracing sub is lapsed as I don't have the time to play it.
Why can't we do that? You pay differently for them, they require different resources to develop and support, they serve different demands. Just because they are parts of one game doesn't mean we can't look at them separately and compare with similar parts of other games. Unless you imply that iRacing service costs so much that your subscription doesn't cover it so they have to keep the costs of content high.
imo the content included in subscription nowadays is decent - Mazda, Vee and Toyota + bunch of decent tracks the content itself is maybe little bit too pricey if u combine it with subscription costs but it also isn't completely awful the problem is that most important thing, means driving in this game feels mediocre at best so it just isn't worth the price also that subscription to me feels like psychological ploy to tie u to the title, lmao I don't like it and any subscription based models beside music services because I won't use them more often than probably every few days so I feel like it's waste so on me it has like reverse psychological impact the thing I don't really get is why across so many sims we have on the market atm seems like nobody is trying to do proper multiplayer system which clearly is the biggest draw that people look for - even the driving psychics can suck but if the multiplayer will be well made people will drive it hopefully Raceroom will do some move soon and will finish UI with some more advanced system in it
I think RaceRoom competition system is pretty good, but the problem is very low participation. Somehow iRacing is still go to sim for multiplayer, despite few other sims offer free ranked multiplayer . Many people haven’t even heard about RaceRoom , especially in US .
Everything iRacing does is simple and convenient. I also like their sales system: if a car costs 10 dollars, it doesn't mean that in a week it will cost 5 dollars on some sale. This rewards old users rather than new users, whereas in Raceroom it's exactly the opposite. This is the reason I bought all the oval content and have no regrets, even though my subscription is unpaid, that way I just don't have time for iRacing.
When you just want one car or one track it's okay, but other sims offer a big variety for prices that are still, uhm, in the scale of "video game prices". If you want similar variety in iRacing the costs shoot through the roof.
For me cars in iRacing usually cost $11.95 + 22% taxes and tracks $14.95 + taxes. that’s way more even with recent price hike in RR. I don’t get your argument that cars occasionally go on 50% sale. That’s what most games do. Even iRacing subscription is off 25% during Black Friday . New users get 40% off subscription or even can get a sub for a year plus F4 car for $10 by joining local FIA club. Is that bad because old users paid full price? Edit: Also iRacing occasionally makes some tracks free . Recently 4 of them were made free, but I already bought 2 of them and didn’t get refund despite racing only couple times. That’s not rewarding old users. Sometimes you get refund if you bought it recently , but wasn’t in my case. I agree iRacing multiplayer is convenient, especially if you prefer serious racing or want to race any time of day. It still can get frustrating in lower splits. But I don’t like long loading times , 2 minutes to grid and sometimes full formation laps etc. Edtit: fixed prices
In my humble opinion, RR is fantastic, but it does need a clearer season-like calendar. One thing i will give iR is that they have set cars, within a set list of weekly tracks for a specified duration - in perpetuity. You can look at the schedule for that season and know what you need to purchase etc.
We buy RR content at full price, and after a while it comes in a premium pack at a huge discount - I meant this. It's not about money, it's about the system itself, which doesn't motivate me personally to buy new content, knowing that it will be sold at a huge discount. And money here appears on a different plane - cost. Other games do discount, but as a rule, they are cheap and it makes no difference to pay 5 or 10 dollars. Yeah, iRacing isn't perfect, but it's more encouraging to buy new + you get 20% off if cars/tracks are 40+. Maybe most people are fine with this system, I don't like it. I only bought the DTM 95 because of my great love for DTM, otherwise I wouldn't have bought it without the discount. What you wrote about tracks becoming free isn't very fair either, I agree. But the last place to look for fairness is iRacing. Although I had a case when I got a refund for a car, but this is an exception.
The Ford Mustang was, is and will always be a great looking race car for all the "GT3" or the "Trans Am" racing series ... BUT... it's not a NASCAR car. NASCAR has always been a full-size "family car" or full-size "coupe" racing, but never a pony-car event. NASCAR has been betraying itself since the automotive industry is no longer able to build normal passenger vehicles such as the Ford Galaxie, Ford Crown Victoria, Ford Taurus, ...
iracing i was against the economic model, against the price well almost everything! but after several years on raceroom and other rf2 I began to turn in circles with the evolutions much too slow the absence of multiplayer and today I made a second attempt on iracing and it's top ... before getting started, it's important to target your discipline and not spread yourself all over the place to keep costs down, and secondly, iracing takes a lot of time, but I'm having a great time on the multiplayer, even though it can be very frustrating at times ... that's my discipline on iracing rallycross and a bit of nascar for the road. I use other simulations, check out my video, and to experience these intense battles, I've only found this game for rallycross in particular.
