Hey guys, I'm not 100% sure, but I think I might have a problem with the shadows in the game. The Shadows of the tracks are absolutely normal, but sometimes they are looking weird on all of the AI cars. I made some Screenshots, I hope you understand what I mean. When you look at the yellow license plate with the "Deutsche Post" sign, there are some shadows which are not looking right to me... I could be wrong, but when I watch videos from other players I can't see this issue. Graphics setting are all max.
I think I have the same "problem", but I actually lowered the shadow quality. Maybe you unintentionally messed with your graphic settings ?
Hmm. With lower shadow quality it looks like that: Now these weird shadows are also on the left and the right side
I've the same jaggies as well... and flashing in the replays. I don't recall if they said they had planned a fix also for these...
Turn off the "split shadows"AI car flashing will gone but the track will missing some shadows effect.
I believe one of our programmers is currently taking a look at the shadows. Can't say if it is specifically this issue though.
Yea, working on it as we speak. Cleaning up the opponent cars, and trying if we cant solve the cockpit shadow issues we have. Will take a little while, but we hopefully get there. Getting the cars clean is solved (locally at the programmer who is working on it), but might wait with submitting it, until the cockpit shadow is solved. As I understood it, its a depth buffer issue.
Hey guys, i think i have a problem with the shadows too. The Shadows on the tracks (Trees, Fences etc) are looking very aliasing! Graphic settings are all maxed out wit AA 8x. I tried some high quality settings in the nvidia Driver but without a solution. Can you help me? Greeting, Longi
What about the shadows draw distance? There are some tracks where the shadows are progressively appearing as you go by (found that in Portimao and originally in the Raceroom raceway) Is this something that will be fixrd as well?
Was increased aswell. Edit: Should probably explain the compromise we have to do. The longer we make the draw distance, the less resolution / detail the shadows will have (all splits), and that also introduces more artifacts - especially on vertical surfaces, and to eliminate the artifacts on those surfaces, we can determine how far away from the object the shadow starts drawing, which then introduces another sort of the visible drawing. But the shadow draw distance was now extended by some 50% almost, which then introduces a bit of drawing up along walls and guardrails etc. Its a give and take kinda thing.
Does this affect replays aswell? Usually on replays the shadow-casting from the sun has a small "radius", maybe my car and 1-2 others you really see it....but on Hungaroring i watched last time with "Sunset" (which costs most performance of all weather conditions i believe?) i could see all cars casting the sun-shadows in replay .... in last changelog there was a "Hungoraoring optimized performance"....or was that the reason for it?! .... can'T really remember how hungaoring was prior that performance-update.
@Karsten Borchers thanks for the explanation, really appreciated. In all honesty I realize that the shadows had this behavior only in the replays or sometimes during race when I'm taking a look at the surroundings and enjoying the view (this is your fault! Your track quality is superb!! Bathurst is the most beautiful track I've ever seen). Most of the time I'm focused on keeping the cars in the boundaries... So no biggie for me at this point, was just curious and get a very nice answer! Thanks!
Glad to hear this is being worked on. shadows have been a massive thorn in my side for a long time, and it's getting to the point where it's soo distracting that i'm finding it hard to play/test.
If it makes anyone feel better, shadows are working exactly as expected on (hardware limited) low graphic settings
