I like this idea and Sector can use my old CPU fan to capture the "motor" sound, up close it's uncanny!
Please guys, don't mention Formula E here, it gives me some nightmares Everyday I'm praying Saint CosworthDFV to keep all those hybrid and electric engines away from my office. But I can feel it coming slowly but surely though
What? You of all people??? All you'd have to do to get their sound right is record your electric razor in the morning. Don't get the hatred, it's the future and some aspects of it are quite interesting me tinks.
Well said, I actually watch the series regularly and have it set to record on my Tivo box just in case I miss it (in HD so I get the glorious crystal clear sound of all those mighty... lock ups ). Actually a very good and unique series with plenty of very good racing.
I'm with you, but you'd have loads of free time on your hands, afterall just make the boss believe that it's unimaginably complicated to get the electric toothbrush sound right.... ^^
Well, that's the problem, my job will become useless, and from a race spectator point of view, I find it extremely sad and worrying for motorsport.
Did you ever see (not hear because there's nothing to hear) those new LMP or other hybrid engine cars on track? I mean, I come from an era where the engine were litterally screaming, and I loved it, hence my passion for race cars and cars sounds. So, seeing what happens is pretty depressing for me, and I won't talk about F1 because I might get nasty
But just imagine all the different wind sounds you can implement. I still dont know where to stand on this, but I think sound chips in the FE cars will find their way in, people just want to hear the roar. It's phoney, but hey, so are half of all marriages...
I do understand that and I am with you on it to some degree (I doubt I'm that much younger than you? lol) but, if you take F1 for example, the supposed "pinnacle" of motorsport, their biggest problem is over-taking and the lack of it, Formula-E has that in spades which is what makes it exciting and good overall for motorsport. Maybe they could add V8/V12 audio to the cars? lol Edit: Better yet, they could maybe employ you (@Anthony Monteil) to do it!
If they were to use sound chips, I'd love to see them get all silly and add all different kinds of sounds, an ice-cream truck one maybe.
Well, on a positive side, there might be some job opportunities in the sound chip industry, but still , that's not the real deal for me . BTW, I'm 44 but I went to watch races, hillclimbs and rallies very early (since I was 6) thanks to my three uncles But I know I'm a bit extrem on this subject, and you shouldn't let an old fart like me prevent you to suggest some new series if they are attractive for you
I'm 30 (not that big of a difference ), my uncle was the reason I got in to racing too, he was a driver and racing instructor, he now runs "Road and Stage Motorsport (RSM)" in Lancaster (UK). He'd probably side with you to be honest and slap me in the process lol.
he he, that's still a generation younger. I started to feel old recently It's great to have some racing games to gather us though
My problem with Formula E is not just the sound (although that's a hugely emotive issue and may bias my judgement), but it's a spec-series for cars that are just not impressive. In 5-10 years when they can compete on a fair playing field with existing technologies at Le Mans, then I'll review my stance, but showcasing slow cars on tracks specifically designed to prevent showing how slow they are does nothing apart from drag money, talent and attention away from real motorsport. It's a glorified Clio cup to me (and I feel the same about all one-make racing, for the record, but at least most one-make racing is done to save costs whereas FE has extortionate costs). And I'm 29; but got brought up being held in front of rally cars in forests long before I started school
