Some of you may have noticed that the race results file on your dedicated servers now include a "Performance index" for every entry. This is is a value that defines the performance of every car class. Some Classes that fall under the same Balance of Performance (BOP) share the same Performance index. That means these classes will be grouped together on the grid and listed as one class in the results. For examples classes like GT Masters and GTR 3, have the same performance index. Or even the Touring Classics and DTM 1992. If you intend to build 3rd party applications for RaceRoom, such as league managing tools, this can be very helpful, especially for multiclass scenarios. Nice. Will this also affect the Penalty Messages? For example WTCC 2016 don't see if a 2017 car has become a penalty or driven a fastest lap. Will be nice all in the same performance index see this messages.
As far as I know, wtcc 16 and 17 share the same physics model, but not the wtcc 15. So why the 15 has the same performance index? I retry these car yesterday and clearly, the wtcc 15 don't drive like the most recent. They maybe had the same engine, aero and whatever taken in count for the performance, but the handling it's not the same. The wtcc 15 it's close, in handling, as the Audi WTCR.
I would suspect that the index does not take into account how a car handles or "feel" but rather uses data based on performance. So the WTCC '15 most likely performs the same as '16 and '17 even though they do not feel the same.
That's what I understand too and that's the problem because, if the physics are not calculated in the same way, the performance while driving can't be the same, in my opinion. The easiest thing to do is to separate the wtcc 15 (maybe add 1 point in the performance index), and maybe later, upgrade their physics to the wtcc 16/17. Just like the DTM 13/14/15/16 who share, since few month, the same physics and performance.
Yes well small differences are acceptable just like different cars in the same classes are comparable with each other but does not have identical physics outputs. If you want exact copies then there would not be any classes and only cup cars.
It's not a question about same copy or what. But put all the driver on the same level. Wtcc 15 are way more tricky to drive due to the lift oversteer. Since the last update of the wtcc 16/17, the lift oversteer are near inexistant on those cars. I just put myself at the place of a less skill player who want enjoy these cars, take one of the 2015 season, thinking it's the same than the most recent one and go off track at everycorner because they are way more difficult to drive. He's clearly not in the same car due to the physics, so can't compete with the same weapon. R3E had a very good BOP for the GTR3 class, so why not take into account the physics model of the car in the index of performance? That's only this point I rise here.
I see your point but again, performance data does not take into account how "hard" a car is to drive. At least not if the index is calculated from hard data from the game engine itself. I don't know how they determine the index really but I would think it is drawn from objective analytics and not how the car feels or handles.
But I could be wrong and maybe the WTCC 2013 should have a different rating, impossible to know if we do not know how it is calculated in the first place.
Wtcc 13 and 14 don't share the same index of performance between them and between the 15/16/17 because the 13 cars are different of the 14 and the 14 different of the 15/16/17. That mean, in an MP race, 13 are not listed in the same class with the 14 and the 13/14 are not listed in the same class with the 15/16/17.
Oh ya I just saw that. Well by quickly looking at leaderboard wtcc 15/16/17 seem to have about the same timings so it would make sense that their index is the same
The problem is the physics of the wtcc 15. With the actual index of performance, those cars compete in the same class with the 16/17. I might be wrong, but normally, the 15/16/17 cars are identical in term of engine power, brake power and everything just like IRL. But in the game, the physics of the 16/17 cars (the most up to date) are no more calculated in the same way than the 15 cars. So if the physics is different, the performance on track can't be the same between these three season. So, they can't really compete in the same class during an mp race.
Performance can be equal regardless of new or old physics. But anyway, I don't think we're gonna get anywhere with this and we're just rambling here in an otherwise very useful thread. Good night.
Well, launch the game when you can, take the nordschleife VLN layout with the WTCC 15. Put the aero at 1 and try to do a lap. After take wtcc 16/17 car and do the exact same thing. You will see the performance difference only due to the physics calculation
