Good Track! Autodrom eh? I do remember driving on this here a tad. I like how you can push it pretty hard in the overall turns within the course. Yea! I see what you mean That's one thing I like here with this sim is because it's like I need my daily fix on speed! I have my GT-DD pro maxed out. Then I noticed too that in the Fanatec software I could even turn it up to higher than 100% "?" So I have it at around 110 or 120.... cant remember. I have the GT-DD set at 8 NM - Maxed anyway. The forced feedback action in RR really surprises me. This little motor wheel base is stronger in this sim than the other sims. These ole F1s here , just sitting at a dead stop I can turn my CS 2.5 from side to side and it's sure as heck not power rack in pinion steering! Sitting on the floor in it's box I have a project where I'm upgrading to a VRS 20NM. That's gonna be a trip!
I typed in Niki Lauda To Hell and back" pdf download" and was able to download a copy of his book in PDF. I like how he describes the "Ring"? Nurburgring. I'd say the Ring is my favorite sim track to drive. I'm getting better at getting through it without violating track limits. My slicks really wear out on those older F1 rides. I like the way in RR, when we shift we can feel the car and at times when I shift I can feel the rear end break loose. I think this last RR update must have really improved the suspension and tire modeling? It's now harder for me to enjoy any other sim it seems. It's either the sound or the lack of FFB. "?" Or it doesn't feel fast enough. RR is fast.
They brought a completely new tire model in December 2023, yes. Definitely much better and more natural than the previous ones.
It's my go to fix?! Fast and rough and the FFB on my little starter GT-DD feels better than any other sim including iracing. So now I wish RR would create night time wet tires....and and and....... But at least we have what we have. I tinker with other sims and there's cool features within most everything I guess. I originally hung up my DCS world wings two years ago with no regrets. Now I'm putting together a VRS base since I enjoy their pedals Hopefully RR keeps building it up. Fun!
Well... Much to my surprise I have started chapter 12 in Niki Lauda's book titled "To Hell And Back". Prior to chapter 12 I found it very interesting reading as Niki describes how he is racing as he describes driving technique with strategy. This surprised me as I too in the sim, in my little sim world did very similar things due to the similar situation but I thought it was just me doing what I do cause maybe I don't know very much and don't really know how to really drive cause I've never been in a race car. So what am I doing? I was actually pleased to learn that this information is very much related and I was not so far off in my ignorant mind within the subject. But chapter 12 is titled "From 400 to 1000 Horsepower Formula 1, 1972-1985 This became really interesting as he describes car set up, a subject I have been trying to learn more about based on all my ignorance. There's a whole lot of information here he describes that is related to any sim that provides any of these adjustments to the car. Just seems pretty fun here as I have been searching within the sim world for some of these answers or questions.
Man you're not kidding! What a track! I was thinking of another track, I've never tried this one. I need to get it in my head. According to it's history it started in around 1954? F3 cars can reach speeds of 171MPH or 275 KM. "?" I was running the V12 F1 on it. I am getting that one hair pin tight turn where you must enter just right or your screwed? I like the two other straights too where you push it hard. Very fun track! You wasn't kidding! I have lots of practicing to do. At the Ring" though I did a 7.57.1 without violating track limits. This was very good for a guy like me. LOL
AHhhh ok Thanx! The ole "set steering lock in car setup higher, just for that chicane" Trick eh?! I will know it well.
Is setting this up also realistic to possibly altering or adjusting this for a given track? In Niki's book after he retired his second time and started his flight company for his love of flying, Niki also helped engineer a tad being a test driver. He said that he learned that all through his career he realized that there were drivers who never had their steering adjusted properly and they oversteered and sort of adapted to this without ever knowing that it could have been tuned? Or adjusted? That's what you helping me with this adjustment makes me think of this. "?"
melco hairpin can be a pain, hence the advice (usually default steering lock is enough for most tracks)
Thanx! This is helpful! I've been in search ya know for ways to figure out car set up and what is needed. I guess some people know who actually race or work on cars at a higher level. But I wish there was maybe a RR strategy guide for set up. I've seen some vids on U tube. But one keen source that I found interesting is this book the way things are described.
