Welcome to the Ranked Championship 2024 - Season 1!
    R3C-logo.png
It's the third year we're organizing the Ranked Championship! As is tradition, we're organizing two seasons this year and the first season is kicking off today with the newly released BMW pack. We also have a few small changes, so make sure you read the entire topic!

Introducing the three series for Season 1

Series 1: the BMW M2 CS Racing Cup. The significant performance upgrade (450bhp) compared to the BMW M235i is almost a guarantee for action packed races, while still accessible for drivers of all skill levels.
    • 2 x 20 minutes race with a fixed setup, top 10 reversed grid
    • Tracks: TT Assen, Red Bull Ring, Circuit Zolder
Series 2: the BMW M4 GT4 Trophy. The latest edition to the GT4 class is based on the new G82 model with 550bhp and is a worthy successor to the first generation M4. With a slightly different race format than usual, we hope to bring an exciting series to the championship.
    • 1 x 25 minutes and 1 x 15 minutes race with an open setup, top 5 reversed grid
    • Tracks: Hockenheimring, Lausitzring, Nordschleife
Series 3: the GTE Masters with the BMW M8 GTE and the Porsche 911 RSR. Finally an addition to the GTE class and what better way to celebrate it with using it as the third series of season 1!
    • 1 x 60 minutes race with an open setup and a mandatory pitstop
    • Tracks: Daytona, Interlagos, Imola

Note: due to a bug we will have a STANDING start with the GTE Masters instead of a rolling start.

    Global Leaderboard Championship
Everybody is invited to participate on the leaderboards to set their best lap times. You do not have to own the car or track in order to set a lap time, which means it's a great way to test the new cars. And best of all; if you're in the top xx of the Leaderboard Championship you can win vRP prizes - for all three series, so you have three opportunities win prizes!

Make sure to invite your friends to the leaderboard; the prize pool increases based on the number of participants. The more participants on the leaderboard, the more prizes you can win!

    Championship Races on Wednesday's
    [IMG]
Everybody who owns the cars and tracks is invited to participate in the races. We're organizing races for three regions: America, Europe and Oceania.

Regional Qualifiers towards the Global series finale
Three rounds of regional races will act as qualifiers to the grand final for each series; the best of the best are invited to race in the series finale! The top drivers after three rounds can win vRP prizes, even if they didn't make it to the finale.

All races will take place on Wednesday. All confirmed participants will be divided into grids using a matchmaking formula (rating * reputation / 100)

The top split of Europe will be broadcasted live on the official RaceRoom channels along with the global series finale. The streams are announced on Discord, Social Media and in this topic.

As with the leaderboard; the prize pool increases based on the number of participants, so invite your friends!

    Changes from previous editions
    • As you can see, we only announce three tracks for each series. The three rounds acts as qualifiers towards a grand finale for each series with the best drivers from all regions! The finale track will be decided by a community vote on the Official RaceRoom Discord

    • No more forms and mails! Registration and cancelling your participation will go through the Official RaceRoom Discord instead. This allows you to update your participation until the last moment. On the race day you will receive a Direct Message from the RaceRoomAI with your server information instead of an email, to ensure you receive the information in time.

    • Series 2 starts after round 3 of Series 1, Series 3 starts after round 3 of Series 2, instead of 3 series at the same time
Discord - the why and the how
Why we use Discord for registration
For the past editions we used a form which required you to use the (exact) same email address that you have in your RaceRoom Account. This was a time consuming method on our end and it happened too often that participants entered an incorrect email address which meant they were not able to be invited. It also happened often that participants forgot to register as the times weren't equal for each region.

With the growth in number of participants for the past 2 years, we were looking at possibilities to automate this process. Despite our fantastic web team working around the clock to create a new backend, this takes a lot of time and unfortunately the new backend is not ready yet.

    We had a few choices:
    • use the same method as last editions (which means a lot of manual work for each race day and a number of participants not being able to participate)
    • move to an external party to organize the races (which means all participants are required to create a new account on that platform, plus we're limited in our options in terms of matchmaking)
    • create our own system independent of our current backend and without delaying our new backend
All options take time to implement. As there wasn't that much time available (even though it's been 4 months since the last season), we've chosen the last option and decided to use Discord. The Ranked Championship (and Ranked Events) are community based and most of the participants already use Discord. In the future the registration process will be implemented in-game as well (registering for race/viewing server information), but we have no ETA for this yet as this depends on a new backend. Just know that we don't stop working on a better experience!

Linking Discord to your RaceRoom account
Linking your Discord account to your RaceRoom account is a simple process:
    • Make sure your Steam account is linked to your Discord account. (In Discord; User Settings > Connections > Add your Steam account)
      • You can set this to be private/invisible to others
      • This must be the Steam account that you use for RaceRoom
    • Join the Official RaceRoom Discord: https://discord.gg/RaceRoom - this is required in order for the RaceRoomAI to send you a Direct Message
      • If you have issues joining the Discord, please send us a Direct Message with your Discord username
    • Use the command /connect on the RaceRoom Discord. The bot will send you a link. The link is not posted here, as the Discord bot needs to be able to send you a Direct Message. Once you click on the link, you'll be redirected to the Discord Authentication: you login with your Discord Account. We only check your Steam connection in order to link your Discord account with your RaceRoom account
      [IMG]
    • If successfull, you will receive a Direct Message from RaceRoomAI and you can now register for races, cancel your participation and use the global commands like /rank

    • In the #championship-races channel you can find the upcoming races. Click on the topic and then click on one of the buttons to register for a region, or cancel your participation
      [IMG]

    • When the deadline for a region is closed, the grids are created and server information will be sent by DM by RaceRoomAI

    Frequently asked questions
    • Do I need to own the content (cars/tracks)?
    • For the global Leaderboards, you do not have to own the content.
    • For the regional races and global finale, you need to have the eligible car(s) and tracks.
    • Is it required to join the Official RaceRoom Discord?
    • In order to participate in the races, you are indeed required to join the Official RaceRoom Discord. It's a Championship for the Community and Discord is the primary way we connect everyone. It's the place where all announcements are made, you can get help, tips & tricks and meet your fellow drivers.
    • I've been banned from your Discord server
    • Send us a Direct Message or email to esports@raceroom.com with your Discord username to get it sorted
    • When are the tracks for the finale decided?
    • The Community poll opens on Discord after Round 2 and will be open until Round 3. Everyone is allowed to vote, even if you didn't make it to the finale!
    • Can I stream my race?
    • Yes, of course!
    • Can I stream a race that is not officially broadcasted?
    • Yes, of course! You do need to let us know in advance, so we can share the server information with you by sending an email to esports@raceroom.com at least 24 hours before the race. Let us know which split (or specific user) you'd like to stream and a link to your RaceRoom profile.
    • Can I participate in the races even if I have not driven on Ranked before?
    • Yes, of course! For the matchmaking we will use the default Rating (1500) and Reputation (70). You can increase your Rating and Reputation faster by joining the daily Ranked Multiplayer races if you want to get into a higher split, but this is not required.
    • When will the prizes from the previous Championship arrive?
    • Unfortunately we've had a bigger delay in processing the prizes than we want and expected. Since our emails aren't always delivered, sending the prizes by email is no longer an option. We're working on a solution, but we were not able to have this solution ready before the start of this season. As we're planning to have 2 seasons this year, we could not delay the start until the solution was ready. We hope to have the solution ready later this year and be able to proceed in sending everyone their prizes.
      Our sincere apologies!

If I don't want Discord to know my Steam ID, there's no other way to tell the bot who I am?

That is correct; we need to verify who you are, both on Discord (so you can register/receive server info) and on Steam (to make sure it's the correct RR user account)

I can think of a way to do it without linking accounts, but that would obviously require additional programming on your end. Like, the bot sends me a unique line of symbols, I insert it in the "Team" field on my Raceroom profile. When the bot detects it it would mean that I have control over this Raceroom account. Then I can revert the team name back.

It is commendable that the new series is starting, but has already paid the prizes for the previous series (2023 Ranked) and the competition prizes (500vRp)? Or did I miss something?

It's about safety as well; you tell somebody else to put the code in their account and you can still fake being a different user. The current method reduces that significantly, as hopefully, most people know they shouldn't share their account. Plus it's additional steps (for both users and development):
    - what is your profile url
    - put this in your team
    - once it's in your team, use another command
    - update your team after "confirmation"

Depending on the amount of people that really have an issue with this, there might be another possibility, but it requires at least a certain amount of people before we spend time on that.. I hope you can understand this

simply there is no workaround, just connect your steam account, connect your RaceRoom account through bot, then disconnect your steam account
Edit: yh, as Chris said, it can be like that

Disconnecting it afterwards doesn't prevent Discord from getting this info that I don't what it to have.

As in, I deceive the other person to do that? But then I will only be able to sign them up and get information about the champ/events, I won't be able to drive for them without having access to their Steam account.

And if you mean we're working together to trick the system, nothing would stop us to link they Steam account to my Discord account.

I kinda fail to see safety concerns here. But I get the rest, thank you.

Steam ID is just a string, no one can hack you by it

Steam ID is not a private info, everyone can find you and see your Steam ID.
If you check my Steam account, the Steam ID is right in the link
and Discord can't do anything with your Steam ID

If you connect discord with your steam account you open the door for possible fraud by third parties.

That's only if they find me on Steam or in the game, but not on Discord.

While any of these openly accessible profiles are not private info per se, the information that these particular accounts all belong to the same person, is not as open.

You can hide it from your account so it's not visible to other users. You can keep it for a few minutes to verify your account, then remove it completely. That way you don't have the door open

Oh my god, why do you still not understand the very first sentence that I wrote?

I don't want Discord, the company, to know my Steam ID. That's it. All your solutions are for different issues.
