I mentioned this on Discord, but it will be buried there soon...all the overcast footage with autoexposure off seems to be excessively dark, it looks like overcast is very much dependent on that feature. Is there a chance you could tune the default exposure a little bit? I'd rather not use autoexposure as I find it pretty distracting, but I would also like to see where I'm going.:-D
I run RRE on the Quest 3 from the Oculus library with no issues and don't have steamvr running at all. If you want to check settings drop me a line
Wondering if it would be worth it to run Vulcan rather than DirectX? Would my GPU have issues with the API? I currently have an RTX 3080.
Modern GPUs get the biggest benefits from Vulkan actually. It should look pretty much the same, just some slight anti-aliasing differences. DXVK gives me about 30% higher fps in CPU-limited scenarios on my 5800X3D and 3080. Though one 'downside' is that we added SSAA support for nvidia in DX9, which looks amazing So it will be a hard choice between sticking to DX9 for SSAA or DXVK for the performance for nvidia GPUs For AMD GPUs the choice is a lot easier, they should get even bigger performance boosts from DXVK, and DXVK has transparency (trees and fences mostly) anti-aliasing for AMD, which AMD doesn't support in DX9. So DXVK will look better and run better for most AMD GPUs
But how can I use it in vr? Is it the same procedure as with the regular x64, putting openvr.dll inside x64dxvk folder?
Seeing this live in action is quite different to how I noticed the changes in those many videos before. It's a remarkable progress. Really good job.
In the documents in the moods folder I always have it configured with the "realistic" visual effect option, after this update is it better to change it to the one that comes as "default" or is it indifferent to change that option?
I'm having some issues getting the game up and running after the update. I have my computer connected to a 4k monitor and also a 4K TV that I use for racing. The TV only has a 30 Hz refresh rate. I have to have the 4K resolution with 30 Hz selected in RaceRoom for it to work (as it did before the update). I'm not seeing any 30 Hz frame rate's listed in RaceRoom at any resolution. Is there some file I can edit for my setup? My GPU is AMD. I tried starting RaceRoom from Steam with DXVK but it starts windowed and no amount of setting changes will change it to a playable size. Not sure if the two issues are related, or if someone can help get one or the other settings up and running. Thanks.
You could try editing Documents\My Games\SimBin\RaceRoom Racing Experience\UserData\graphics_options.xml and change the value for "screenRefreshRate".
Thank you, that did help. I could still use a little more help. I got the window to show up on my TV, however it is in either windowed or borderless mode and about a quarter of the screen. I can't figure out the right line in the Graphics_Options.xml file to set these to use Monitor 2 and Full Screen at the same time. I'm just going around and around in circles trying to change settings in the file and having RaceRoom overwrite them. I'd like to see if I can get the file data entered correctly, and then write protect the file and see if that works. These are the lines I've found that I think control Full Screen and Monitor: <windowMode type="int32">1</windowMode> <monitor type="int32">1</monitor> I've tried various combinations of numbers, from 0 to 2 and get different results. I just can't figure out the correct values. Thanks.
There is a setting in the RaceRoom graphics to pick Monitor 1 or 2 from a drop down menu. I was hoping that was stored in this same graphics file so that all the graphics settings would be "correct" when the game starts. For quite a while now (I'm talking a year or 2), if I try to change any settings in the graphics window within the game, it locks up. Sometimes the setting I selected would stick and sometimes it wouldn't. It was quite a lengthy process with the last big update to get this working again, but now none of my tricks seem to be able to get it to work. My son tells me the easy fix is to buy a new 60 Hz tv, that's easier said than done.
